Default CarFax says imported from France, 4 battery checks

I'm shopping for my first Jaguar, focusing on the 2007/08 xk/xkr.

Part of the process involves reading CarFaxes and AutoChecks and wondering how accurate they are, and how significant some of the entries might be.

I live in Roanoke Virginia, and despite there being a Jaguar dealer in town there is not a used 07 or 08 XK within 100 miles of here. So I'm shopping on line.

There is a really nice 07 xk that I'm interested in, but the "clean" CarFax gives pause. What would you make of this:

first entry: vehicle manufactured 1/2006
2nd entry: vehicle imported from France (to California) 3/2006
3rd entry: vehicle sold (one year later in Illinois) 2/2007 with 3578 miles on it.

The car went from England to France, across the Atlantic, accross the USA to the west coast and on the Illinois. Does that seem wacky?

The other odd thing is that the same Jaguar dealer performed a Battery/Charging System Check four times over the next three years. Is that just a Midwest winter thing or does it signal a troublesome issue that cannot be resolved.

Advice from anyone with more Jaguar and CarFax experience than me (and that means everyone) will be appreciated.

Can't help with your "history" problem but I can point you to 1 of the best looking 07 XKs I've seen. Look in the For Sale By Owner Forum. One of our members near Raleigh has a beaut with a great picture.

I'm hot for it myself but I've got to sell my XJR first and the timing may not work.

The Jaguar you are looking at is not the current shape. The first current shape XK/XKR's were not built until December 2006. If the pictures you are looking at show the current shape something is seriously wrong.

No problem with the world travel of the car. The only issue is that vehicles that were made in the the 2006 and early 2007 were not made for the US market and as such may cause issues for you.

MY advice is to stay away from the 2006/07 XKR and look for a 2008 it may cost a little more but it will be worth it. Keep in mind that the 2007 was the first year of this new model and believe me (I own one) they had a few issues that you would not expect from a quality stand point for a car of this caliber.

By 2008 these problems were solved. Also the additional cost to go with the XKR over the XK is definitely worth the dollars!

Good luck with your car hunting. If you are doing it on line you will be able to find a great car I am sure.

There is a possibiliy that it's the new body style. While looking for mine, I saw early 07 cars made in 06. The front seats are made different than the later ones during the year. You can go on Ebay now and there are several that were made in the months of March and April 2006. I think I would wait for a later production car if an 07 is what you want. Even purchase an 08. My 07 was a late car right before the year change. Good luck.

07XKJaguar is right regarding XK model Jaguars the XKR was not released until 2007 with first production being in December 2006... sorry for the misunderstanding.
