Not sure, but I took my 09 Mercedes GL 320 bluetec in for an appraisal at carmax this week, because we have a new GL incoming. Carmax offered me a better price than the mb dealership and fairly close to what I could get private party. Their appraisal is good for 7 days and it's probably going to expire before my new car arrives. Hopefully, they will give me the same or very close to the same number.
I also heard you cannot negotiate with them when selling your car, but will find out soon and let you know.

After the salesman got pissed and I told him to have a good day I began thinking... If they are unwilling to deal and even take offense to it why pay to have salesmen at all?!?!?

Why can't a computer do that job?

"Prive. Is. 50k. Place. Money. In. Slot. If. Interested. Have. A. Nice . Day."

CarMax must hire the most dense sales staff EVER.

A few companies are doing to same style pricing, regardless if it turns down a few sales. Some consumers are scared of wheeling and dealing car prices and feel at ease if the car is priced well and there's no haggling.

If they give you a good trade-in value, I'd bite on it right away and sit out with no car until the new one comes.

They wanted 29000 for a 2010 G37S coupe maxed to the 9's.... Anniversary edition. 5000 miles with a complete body wrap. I wanted Edmunds 30500. When I called to tell them the car was "outstanding" not "clean" the guy raised his voice at me!!! I told him to have a nice day!!! What an a#%hole!!!!

I've decided to keep the car and just save up cash. When the F-type coupe comes out maybe the price on XKs will drop?!?!? Used ones that is as people trade cars?

Don't wait until it expires. The next appraisal could be hundreds less.

$1500 is not far off from what you wanted. Consider that normally when you trade in, you are buying another car from the same place. At Carmax, there is no obligation to do so.

If I were you I would sell the car private party- advertise on auto trader, etc, especially since you have a unique, low mi car.

We don't have a 3rd car, so I would have to rent one for my wife- if there was a delay in getting my new car It cost a lot more $

That sounds like an excellent offer. I'd take it. Usually their offers are the like every other dealer... "auction value".

Decided to keep the G37S... Heck with it. I own it with title so might as well get miles out of it.

After thinking about it, I agree with you. I traded in my GL today, instead of risking a lower appraisal after 7 days. They gave me $4k more than mb dealership offered. I'm borrowing my dad's supercharged mustang until my new GL arrives

Good work. Car prices are a strange thing. I was ready to trade in my Mustang once to Carmax (it was 10 months old). The next appraisal I got was for about $1000 less, since it was nearing the end of sports car season. I ended up selling the car private party, which took me a lot of time and effort because I had to deal with the lien and everything and I had complications getting the title to the buyer... for what I would've gotten from Carmax had I just accepted their offer 2 weeks prior.

That is their whole business model. You did not know that before you went there? It's in all the ads.
