*5W20 because Florida, all the main dealers here use it, not 0W20...

Do you use a syringe extractor or one of the pneumatics?

For whatever reason, my last Jaguar oil change (last year) was done by draining instead of the previous suction method. The DIY days are over for me, so everything goes to the shop.

Any Group IV fully synthetic. I've used Amsoil exclusively since 1974. No issues ever.

I guess because of the high temps, right? Would you recommend for me to use the same oil viscosity since I am located in UAE - Abu Dhabi where temps go really high as well and the car is daily driven? tnx

Your signature says 2007 so the correct oil would be 5W30.

I assume that with the 5.0 enignes the OW/20 should be used... correct?

I was referring to the 3.0 and 5.0L cars.

Yep, the 3.0 (AJ126) and 5.0 (AJ133) use the exact same spec of oil and take the exact same amount as the sump is the same.
The only thing to watch out for is AWD vs RWD, the AWD takes around 3/4 of a litre less than the RWD (both V8 and V6 versions) due to the different sump pan design to accommodate the AWD gubbins and JLR dealerships are notorious for overfilling the AWD by whacking in the RWD fill amount.

Not to get totally derailed, but after getting off of you tube, it seems that the top two rated engine oils in general seem to be Penzoil Ultra Platinum and Valvoline Advanced. Are any XK owners using these brands? They seem to be rated above the basic Mobil 1 and Castrol Edge.

A few members here using the Ultra Platinum. As I mentioned it’s inexpensive, superior to OEM and comes with an unbeatable warranty. However you’ll find a bigger sample of users in other Jag model threads as it’s not XK specific but engine specific.

And to clarify my previous post yes, like the other main dealers here in central Florida I use 5w20 Ultra Platinum in my 3.0 and 5.0L engines because Florida never gets cold enough to require 0W and with our extreme heat 5W offers better cold start protection. In colder regions 0W’s lower cold viscosity becomes more critical.

I was under the understanding that the 0W/20 changeover from the 5W/20 was Jaguar's decision to address timing chain issues.

Can't speak for other dealers but the 4 main dealers nearest continue to use 5W20 as do I. Yes, JLR have advised the use of 0W with most regions being colder, 5W wasn't flowing fast enough on cold start to adequately lube the tensioners. Most damage, wear, failures in engines occur on cold start, and the lower the engine temp, the greater the risk. However in warmer climes, too low viscosity on a cold engine also provides inadequate cold lubrication thus the higher cold viscosity recommendation.

. I just noticed that my last oil change at my Jag dealership ( last year ) was using 5W/20. My service writer ( formerly shop foreman) told me that with the amount of miles I drive (1400 miles last year) it doesn’t really matter what oil I choose as long as it’s the proper weight. I guess it easiest to go with Castrol Edge or Mobil 1 as it’s easily available at Walmart. I might choose Castrol as that was Jags brand with their liquid gold “Professional”. FYI…. Jaguar is currently charging $350+ for an oil change. Heading to my Indy for my next one.

Yes, 20's the viscosity at operating temp and is always the same regardless of ambient temp so for the tighter tolerances of modern engines that is important.

Ultra Platinum here
Amazon Amazon

Alpine's got a 30% off special until the end of the year, have you asked about the price difference between full service and basic 30 minute?

Thanks Jahummer.
Are you referring to Fort Lauderdale Jaguar when you mention Alpine? I just edited this post. Yes I saw the 30% offer but it's only when you CHANGE YOUR BRAKES!. I knew there was a gimmick. PS...Penzoil Ultra Platinum is not available on Amazon for 5W/20...It is available on line at Walmart......Thanks for the advice anyway.

It was in stock when I posted the link, now it's out...but that happens everyday, I buy multiples per month and it takes anywhere from 1 day to a week to receive depending on stock at time of order. For $5 per quart it's worth waiting for...

Where did you find filter & oil for that price? Genuine filter at dealer is about $60.
