Default Chain Tensioners

Hi,

I've just purchased a 2002 xkr with 131k and impeccably looked after.

I just need to know if the chain tensioners on this model are metal or plastic and if they should be replaced?

I also understand the Ford Lincoln tensioners are the same as the Jag ones.

Can anyone please advise?

Thanks.

You are on the wrong forum. Have your post moved to the X100 forum.

Jaguar changed tensioners mid 2002. You need to look at your VIN number. The plastic ones are in the 001001-A24195 range. After that range they should be metal.

Hi

Thanks for getting back to me.

Just a quick questions. I am quite mechanically minded and service my Ducatis myself. Is there anyway of visually checking the tensioners to see which ones I have and if so is it a tricky job?

Thanks.

There are quite a few write ups on changing them on the X100 forum. It is an 8 to 10 hour job if you have the right tools.

It has been quite a few years since I had an XK8 car from that era. I seem to remember that you can either see them from the oil filler hole or can get borescope camera in there to see them. If not, I am sure that if you pull a valve cover you can see what is in there.

IIRC there is no way to see the tensioners either through the oil filler cap or using a bore scope. The only way is to remove the valve covers.
Regards,
