Clearcoat lacquer repair.....
Lacquer repair
Hi, just sounding out some advice on clearcoat lacquer issues.
I have a thumb nail size area which has lifted by the passenger door handle (06 XK). It's just in the reveal next to the trailing edge mounting area so barely visible unless crouching down and really looking for the fault. The lacquer has lifted and allowed dirt / water behind it making it more noticeable.
I was thinking of just slicing the blister off with a craft knife and touching the area in with a brush to cover the base coat and hopefully stop the area getting any larger. Don't even want to try feathering the edges off as I think the clearcoat lacquer is lots tougher than basecoat and I'm wary of sanding through tha basecoat inadvertently.
Wont be anything like invisible however owing to the location it can't really be seen that easily and should prevent further peeling etc........
Any advice much appreciated !

Hi , what you intend to do sounds fine.
Make sure you remove any wax etc from the chip with a non abrasive compound then touch in with lacquer allowing each coat to dry properly.
Once you built the level with a few applications and if your feeling brave it is possible to lightly sand the touched in area with a small 1" x 1" sanding block and 1500 wet and dry, then polish back up with compound.
