Turns out i have a piece of piston missing. No idea where it went, there's also some unknown substance in the bore. It was compression tested and came back at 80psi, so i know that the breakage is passed the piston rings.
Here are the images from the bore scope. Never seen this happen before. This was mapped in July by Viezu, whether they messed up the fuel/air ratio and it was running too hot I don't know
But either way, it's a new engine job.
Will an XKRS engine be okay to use in the XKR?
Still have to get the piston out, which means dropping the pan to access rod bolts. PLUS, then hope beyond hope that the cylinder isn't scored. And, when that piece left, it may have damaged the exhaust valve or seat, and if it DID go out that way, it's probably stuck in the Cat on that side.
Possibly that easy, but who knows.....

He said that the cylinder wall looked okay, which is why he was confused as to where it went! But as you said, can only find out when the head is removed!

Like CeeJay said, you would have to inspect the cylinder and valves before going that route.
Here is a V6 3.0 engine, not that much room but may the V8s have more....
The piston will be removed from the top, so that shouldn't be an issue if that's what you mean? As I'm unsure what you mean by pull the piston down?
Heads coming off no matter what. As theres nothing else that can be done!

As much as you have put into this car and made it somewhat of a celebrity, one could see a motor rebuild as the next logical upgrade.
You have seen the chap in Canada that suffered the same fate from a tune?

Had planned to get mine tuned as a present to myself for Xmas . Bang goes that idea
I miss read... thought the plan was to pull the piston down from the bottom. Didn't make much sense. Now i realize the piston rod has to separated from the bottom then pulled up from the top. That makes more sense.
Taking the whole engine out would be easier than just removing the heads though, no?

I don't really have the funds to upgrade the engine. I need to fix it first, then i can think of what to next. Tbh i didn't know that there were any upgrades for these engines!
Well, I'm now thinking it was the fuel i put in, as i was really low on fuel and the closest fuel station was the worst in my town. So, I'm thinking the low ron fuel combined with the map has done this!

Oh no, i've rebuilt an old evo 8, so i know the piston has to come out the top!

Do some math and see what how much it would be to go the extra mile and take care of things you would have to at 150,000 miles.
Such as cleaning the valves, vvt and so.
That way you can offset this loss by essentially resetting the clock on those repairs.

True, its just just a matter of expense. I've found a set of heads on Ebay for £1800 so might go that route
