Your Public Profile shows that you have a 5.0L X150. Let's assume that your technician was a slow worker and he took 30 minutes to change your oil. (See my Post #9, above). That's labor only, because you brought your own oil (and, I presume, filter). So, $380 for a 1/2 hour's work equals $760 per hour.

Jaguar dealer labor in Poland is expensive, just like in the USA.

 

Labor charges are all over the spectrum!
If you are happy with the service and can pay the price, so be it.
As long as I am able, I'll do my own.

Was wondering others thoughts. I purchased a 20k miles filter specific for synthetic oil. I’m changing my oil every 3000 miles. May be overkill but that’s what I’m doing. If I’m changing the oil and otherwise it would have been worse would others change the filter or let it ride for say…. 9000 miles? I’ve heard your supposed to change filter with oil regardless but it’s rated for 20k miles…. Hmmm

If you bought this Fram filter, IMO it's superior to the OEM Jaguar filter - and costs less.

Oil is cheaper than engines. I change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first.

 

I'll never pay that crazy price for no oil change and then gotta turn around and buy the oil too.I change mine myself with a pump with a nozzle that attaches to the small iron tube that's located under the oil cap and i attach it to that and suck out all the oil and put the new oil in once i pump that thing until it can't pump no more where it gives you signs that it sucked out all of the old motor oil.once it's done i just put the correct amount of oil back in and it's good.It's fairly easy and you should learn how to do it yourself.Either that or take it to walmart and get it done for $30 where u just bring your own oil cause my lil bro told me the XK is the easiest car to work on, it's just the parts are too packed together under the hood that gives you a problem.The bolt you take off under the car is located under the plastic shield,so you just need to remove it to get to it to unscrew the bolt to release the oil.Maybe walmart use the same pump like i got to do it for you if they don't do it the old fashion way by removing the plastic shield under the car

 

I use the STP and it last like around 10,000 miles

I used to change the filter every other oil change for the same reason; that my oil change schedule was between 3500 - 5000 kms.
Then I was thinking…. if filters are doing their job and in doing so, the medium becoming blocked, would that not affect flow??

So for the few dollars, I just have the filters replaced every time.
Ditto for all the air filters. I change them at half the schedule “suggested”. (I refuse to use the phrase “recommended” as I had one dealer suggest my frequent maintenance schedule was “not recommended”…. jeepers.)

As for suggesting one filter over another, there are significant differences in quality and features. I keep up on the independent tests by a few youtubers. If you strictly consider the marketing, you may be surprised by the descrepancies.

Genuine filter's only $22 and fits perfectly. Most members here probably only need a change once per year so not sure what the point of spending hours of research to saave $2-$5 per year. Also I've tried other filters and found they didn't fit as well or leaked.

 

First, you can get just a basic oil change done at most main dealers for less than $200, just request they skip everything else such as the full service wash, loaner vehicle, inspection report, etc, in fact one of the dealers here occasionally offer a 30 minute oil change special while you wait for $120. Second it's quite easy to forget the costs of doing business, especially if you don't own a business. To simplify there's taxes, insurance, loaner vehicles, real estate, materials cost, fees, salaries and more so the actual NET profit's a LOT less than you think - oil changes don't keep main dealers in business. If you can't afford the maintenance and don't want to DIY then you shouldn't own one.

By the way, a hand wash in my area averages around $50 and they aren't nearly as good as the main dealer.

 

If my Jag dealer would charge under $200 for an oil change I wouldn’t give it a second thought. Not going to happen. They are at $300 or more these days.

 

I think we all get it - the cost of an oil change at a Jaguar dealer simply reflects the cost of doing business today. Almost everything is more expensive - labor, insurance, utilities, and the floor plan cost to carry inventory.

All that us DIYers are saying is that changing the oil and filter on a 5.0L JLR engine is one of the easiest things to do provided you have a good oil suction pump and the right filter wrench. You'll recover the cost of those tools after the first or second oil change, based on what you would have paid the dealer.

 

If you want to get into all the fine details on filters and oil I would ignore all of youtube? No way to tell what's good from bad as there is no barrier to posting wrong stuff. So you get a ton of it!

Easy Cee jay! My business is Dry Cleaning, I’m not going to get steamed, I’ll just let it roll off my cuff. But you are right, I’d be hard pressed to pay $800 and hour for an oil change, that would starch me.

I do my own oil changes. Not because I can’t afford to take it somewhere. And not because I’m cheap. I’ve been working on cars since I was a teenager, so, well, a lot of years… It’s partly because I want to be sure it’s done right, but more so because I can do the whole job in less time than it would take to just drive to a place and back. That’s not even counting the time to wait for the work to be done. So it’s a whole lot faster (and cheaper) to just do it in my garage.
Owner’s manual says 6000 miles. That seems like a good interval. New synthetic oil is supposed to be good for 15,000 or more. I don’t think it’s worth trying to push it that far. Oil and filters are cheap enough. Keep the oil fresh.

 

Sure synthetic oil might last that long before breaking down BUT something else oil does besides lubricating is cleaning which's why the best interval's 5000 miles no matter how good the oil. By that point, the oil's loaded with carbon and other contaminates, frequent changing keeps the internals squeeky clean.

 

Just got a quote from dealership vs oil change (just the service - it's ~103 eur (444PLN) which seems acceptable.

So the assumption that they performed additional checks and charged for them was correct.
