About 4 mths ago i needed to replace my failing battery on the xkr. Went to my local dealer and they advised fitting an AGM battery. Great i will have one of those.
Took the car in the next day and they kindley fitted it for me. That was 4mths ago.
Imagine my surprise and extreeeeeeme annoyance when i look at the battery and find out that they fitted a lead acid battery all those mths previous.
I phoned them to ask for an explenation and all i got was here in NZ they don't have AGM batteries to fit the xkr. Then why, i asked did they not say that when they fitted my battery. Waffle waffle and more verbal diarrehhea was the result.
Oh and if you fit an AGM battery they said, it would fry my system rendering my xkr useless. End of diarrhea!!!!
In the end i called my local battery dealer down the road. He had 3 on his shelf ready to go. Supposedly none in the country jaguar said.
In the end i got a refund from Jaguar and now actually do have a AGM battery in the car.
Thanks for reading guys. I had to share.
Cheers.

As a fellow Kiwi and XKR owner, I would be interested in details (make, model etc) of the AGM battery as I suspect a new battery will be in my future as well.

Thanks for the info.

I have just had the locking touch screen a couple of times so far but only in the first few weeks of ownership so driving it daily may have brought the battery back to life. I shall see what winter brings as that usually is the most challenging time of the year for batteries.

I, too, was sold a regular lead acid battery when I paid for an AGM battery. But I lacked the testicular fortitude/energy to do anything about it.

I will get an AGM battery next winter.

Let's put it this way. I walked into Jaguar and gave them no choice.......in a calm polite manner of course

Seriously? There's about a $200 USD difference in price between lead acid and AGM batteries. I wish I had your discretionary income.

Best,

Is there really? I think the MTP 49/H8 (lead acid) is about $140, and the MTP 49/H8A (AGM version) is about $200-240. More like $60-100 difference!

Considering how much time I spent just installing and acquiring the battery, it's not worth my time to do it again until I really need to.

But then again, I will be having to pay for another $200 battery, so maybe I should reconsider!

The bigger issue right now is I don't have a garage (only a covered parking spot 1/4 mile away) and the weather is too cold and/or it gets dark too early for me to be motivated to get this issue solved.

Then perhaps I overpaid.

The Interstate -93 that I had replaced cost me $130. The Interstate AGM cost me $310 (installed) less the $130 credit from Interstate for the -93.

At least I received what I paid for.
