Default Dumb Question From Newbee

In the model XKR, what does the R stand for other than the higher output supercharged engine?

Jaguar has always used the "R" designation for their high performance models.

Not sure with the Jaguar name... but on many cars of "Yesteryear" it often stood for a "Rally" edition.
How far back into the Jag history can anyone go to identify the first "R" branding.... maybe a clue from that era?

Jaguar began producing R models in 1995 with the introduction of the first XJR. Powered by a supercharged 6-cylinder engine, the car produced approximately 322 horsepower.

I thought it stands for Racing. At least that's what a lot of journalists seem to think.

So, I'm thinking it is like the "M" series to BMW, the "V" to Cadillac, AMG to Mercedes, etc. Really just an identification of the high output and enhansed handling.

Yep...

Although I took a work colleague to lunch once and he asked what the "R" stood for on the dash, I told it stands for "Rodney" (that's my first name...)

I think he went for it for about 2 seconds...
