Default Endurance Service Contract $4800?

3 years or 30,000 miles, exclusionary policy that covers all but maintenance items. This is for my 2010 XKR with 22,865 on the odometer. What do you think?

Fool and money... It's just a high risk insurance policy so read the very fine print with good glasses before thinking about it.

High. (Though exclusion policies are good.)
I'd go out to at at least 75K miles if I were you, if you plan on keeping the car that long.
Is this through a dealer, or calling around? Ranchero is right that they're insurance policies, so there are brokers if you're calling around-- did you go through one, or just call directly? And what is the deductible here?

How many people on this forum have spent anywhere near that much on their '07 or '08 cars in the last three years or 30,000 miles?

You know the contract writer is making good money on these contracts. I think they are kind of like casinos. Sure there might be a few winners. Most people will be losers to provide the contract writer with a good profit after paying off a few winners.

Did not go through a broker. and to be fair, I never had maintenance issues anywhere near that amount on any of our previous 3 XKs. Then again, I never had an XKR before. They also have a 30 day cancellation period, where I can think about whether or not I want to keep it.

Do what they would do.
Take $1500 and put into adptq stock. @1.50 today, price target of $18.00 (it was that just few months ago)
So you could see your $1500 go to $18,000. The odds of that happening are greater than you needing $6k of service under 50,000 miles.

Why would they be selling you insurance on a high-tech car if they stood a chance to lose money? They have run the calculations you have not.

Keep that 4K on prepaid Amex just for repairs. You'll still have money on the card after 3 years.

"everything but maintenance" is a killer clause or comment. Bushings are expensive to replace. I don't know of a carrier who wouldn't classify them as a maintenance item. Same with shocks. Wheels likely aren't covered as they've become a specialty coverage.

So I would think of all the issues that are common to your model and risk/ reward it out. Personally, I budget for this and keep the coin myself, as Moses suggested. You have to sleep at night, but remember, the vast majority of Jag owners aren't on a forum and the majority of issues found on the forum aren't found in all Jaguars.

There are some common complaints, but with a few exceptions, I would bet the carrier would call them normal maintenance. Remember, the house always wins.

I purchased my 2010 XK Coupe 3 years ago from the original owner. It had 4,800 miles. I purchased an Easy care Gold 6 years extended warranty for close to $3700 with a $50 deductable. My car now has 9,300 miles and I have not used my warranty one time!!! I have tried numerous times to get the water pump replaced due to coolant smell and some coolant loss with no luck. Bottom line.....I wish I never took out the policy. Of course I can pro rate it and cash in, but stubborn me won't do it. If driven often, yes get a warranty, but garage queens should be left out from this coverage.

I will be driving it often but the main issue I hear about on the forum is the water pump and that was replaced in 2016. I'm not really sure what other service contract-covered items are things I need to worry about.

Maybe the E-dif, maybe the dash cracking or pulling. I'm confident I can fix anything that rears it's ugly head. Kind of the Viagra thing, I'm at that age where I don't worry about 'stuff' happening and just deal with it when / if it does.

What's the worst that could happen if you don't have the repair insurance? My wife's phone plan and my car insurance both cover road side assistance. I've needed a tow twice in the past 25 years, once for a fuel pump and once because my blower belt shredded.

Most of the plans I have seen cover only "complete failure" of components. This is usually burried in the fine print and means the car usually requires towing. I am surprised that the E-diff failure was covered as described in a recent thread. Maybe something in the diff failed "completely". A water pump leaking or dash pulling/cracking is NOT a complete failure.

I agree with you on just dealing with the problems if they happen. I have never bought optional coverage for a car and have no regrets. I am WAY ahead moneywise.

The roadside assistance - that's another story. I have gotten my money's worth from AAA on the towing almost every year. 25 to 60 year old cars seem to want to come home on a flat bed every once in a while.

I looked into aftermarket warranties on mine before I bought it. The sales pitches were really, REALLY sleazy, and they kept dancing around my very basic question- how much will this policy cost? They kept avoiding my questions about specific failures, only answering with "everything is covered." They refused to send me the fine print that lists limitations and exclusions for my review, and instead sent me glossy pamphlets with superfluous words and pictures of people smiling. Mind you, this was more than just one company doing this. When I finally did get one of them to tell me the policy would cost around $400 a month, I laughed and said that was more than the monthly payment on the loan for the car itself, and if I'm going to spend upwards of $800/ month on a car, it's going to be a new car. To that, she said good luck and hung up.

As many have said, the best aftermarket warranty is to learn how to turn your own wrenches and have a savings account on the side in case anything major pops up.

The thing to realize is that no one is going to give you free money- that would be stupid of them.
For instance there is no such thing as real dental insurance, you basically get out no more than you put in.

So if you are buying warranty because you cant afford an upcoming repair, thats like trying to turn $500 into $1000 at vegas to make your boat payment. It aint gonna happen. You may as well start cutting some yards or learn how to grow your money in the market.

Now if the odds are really low, the insurance rates are really low and those are the best ones to get. For instance I bought a $5000 tv from ebay of all places. It was $3500 and no tax- see. The warranty against damage was $140. So it was a no brainier and I was prepared to lose that. Also I bought the warranty from Costco. Yes you can buy warranty from costco for things you buy elsewhere. that same insurance is sold elsewhere for lot more money.

Well, I'm the guy on the other side of this, from personal experience. I've saved a lot of money through my warranty company. Maybe I'm lucky.
In addition to that differential, I've had rear fog lamps replaced, a supercharger rebuilt, front bushing replaced (yes they're covered) and a transmission mount replaced. Now I may be the exception that proves the rule, but I'm way ahead of the game, money-wise, already. And I've spoken to people at the warranty company twice, and they've both been helpful.

And while I'd love to have the shop space and resources of Ranchero (truly, I would), I'm a city-dweller now, in two cities where storage space is at a premium. Long story short, if I can't fit it in my trunk or my small front-hall closet... tool-wise, I don't have it.
I do very little on my car any more. Even the oil change, which sounds amazingly simple, is something I job out.

Let everyone know who your warranty company is. (Or not as they could go BK soon covering Jags.)

I believe he has Fidelity and I did check with them. they only sell through dealers and the one I called quoted $5,000 -$10,000 depending on which plan I wanted. Decision has been made. I'm banking the money against potential repair bills. I figure their quote is over what I can normally expect in repairs. I'm going to roll the dice.

Yeah I got mine through the Jag dealer when I bought the car. I knew I was going to finance anyway, my apr was really low, so my call was that the extra $65 per payment (more or less) was my peace-of-mind fee. High, maybe, but in my case it worked out.
In your case I'd probably do what others are suggesting.
