Smile Engine Fault equals Battery Issue

Hi All.

Just thought I would post up a minor issue prevented from becoming a major one.

About 2 weeks ago the central display screen on my 09 XKR Convertible did not start when the car started. After stopping, locking and leaving for half an hour, it came good and has been good ever since.

Last week, in the middle of a 1200km non stop drive after stopping for fuel ( non stop meaning driving without an overnighter in these parts, not literally non stop) the engine fault light came up. Stopped car inspected could find nothing our of order, car ran fine for remaining 450km home.

I booked it into the dealer to get fault checked, and asked about it potentially being the battery. They responded "not likely but possible" so I requested they get a battery in and install it regardless as there is a 2 day wait in our district.

Took car in this morning, apparently had a range of communication errors logged, all symptomatic of the battery ( gathered from very helpful contributors to this site). Battery was replaced, all faults cleared, non have re-initiated and other than now my windows are not going back up as part of the roof closing sequence all is fine !

thanks for the background so I could guide the dealer.

Sal

Sal, it sounds as if you need to reset your windows. Run them down and keep holding the button for 5 seconds after they reach bottom. Then run them up and keep holding the button for 5 seconds after they reach the top.

Great thanks for that tip! I will give it a try and see how it goes.
