I think it's safe to say they give no real warning at all since what you read up by the T stat is not the temp around the chambers and if it boils there it'll decompose the FRP plastic cooling system components. It's a real injustice that Jaguar didn't give us a coolant temp gauge.

I don't make it up but in the workshop manual for the 2010-2015 5.0L S/C it shows a coolant temperature sensor in the coolant pipe near the thermostat . I don't have the manual for the 4.2L so it may be different. It also states a warning light will come on in the lower center gauge cluster (in the area where the fuel gauge is) and it will trigger with low coolant and a high preset temperature that will protect the engine.

I saw in one of your posts you had a broken nipple in your expansion tank. Did you replace the tank and if you did was there a sensor on the bottom under the tank.

I just screwed a nipple onto it. I don't remember seeing a switch in the bottom but there is a bundle of wiring going under it toward the module there.

Is it indeed an X150 built mid year or is it an X100? If an X100, you should have the moderator move this thread to the x100 forum. What are the last 10 digits of the VIN?

Back to the subject of overheating.
Yes I was aware, however, I thought both the x100 and x150 were produced in 2006 with the x100 ending mid year and the x150 starting mid year. That is incorrect. I was wrong. So back to the subject of overheating and providing actual help.
I can confirm there is no coolant level sensor noted in the 4.2 wiring diagram, however codes P011623, P011624, P011629 all indicate a failure in the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor of which one cause is low coolant.
None of this is of consequence though given the immediate loss of coolant (given your description that water just pours out when trying to refill)

When I first came here from England, I was ridiculed that its Aloo-me-num not Al-U-min-yum. So you think, jesus, I come from a village, this superpower, most advanced country in the world probably invented it and we pillocks have been saying it wrong all this time.

I am truly confused by the actual dates these two models ceased and started, in both countries.
Wiki just provides year of production info and not the month and isn't at all clear on the builds in each country.
When I state that I'm wrong, I'm not trying to be defensive. I simply want others to ignore my previous comment and not act on it as that can cost someone money. (though not in this case)

Mine was born on Jan 30 2007 according to Ford. The MY 2006 wiring diagram fits VIN's B09097 to B20074 so I suspect the British MY 2006's would have begun production around June of 2006 which makes them US 2007 models. With a B15694 VIN mine was literally born in the middle of the model year.

Then there are the 2006 x100's. Wiki show production of the x100 stopped in 2005. Was that in the UK where they proceeded to build the X150 and did Jaguar continue building x100 for the US market in 2006?
Wiki is Wiki, good and bad. It says the X150 design was locked in in 2002. The 2005 car show circuit ALC coupe is close but missing a ton of details so I don't think the design was 'locked in' even then. Per the transition from body types I think a month tops to reconfigure the build lines and get some training / test body's off. I'd suspect the sub contracts were started in late 2005 for parts and assy's.
I also suspect they'd run the '06 model year up until main assy's were all built. It would be interesting to start and thread in the X100 to see how late their VIN's birth dates ran. Same for the X150 to see how early they production cars were built.
FWIW, it doesn't look like many MY 2005's were built so maybe they pulled the plug early.
