extended warranties?

I'll start the debate. Put your money in a bank account. The priciest repairs on these cars are likely considered normal wear by an insurance company.

Look at all of the things that go awry in the car (the most typical) and ask yourself, what would an insurance company label that on a 7 year old car?
Policy is $2k - $3k. That buys a lot of parts.

Sean is spot on. For a warranty you are paying "up front" for the likelihood of any given repair+marketing+administrative costs+a very significant profit. Put a little cash in the bank no need to pay others for supposed "piece of mind". You'd also be paying up front and "hoping" the warranty would actually pay off in the event of a needed repair.

Any warranty you would be considering now would be 3rd party and expensive. It's best you make sure you have a well maintained car and thoroughly check it out. Save your money and have a reliable trust worthy shop available when needed. I have a 6 year warranty that I purchased through Jaguar over 2 years ago. I have yet to make a single claim.

I bought a CPO vehicle, which is nothing but an extended warranty through Jaguar. While I didn't pay for it as an add-on I could have bought non-CPO vehicle for a bit cheaper.
Within 2 months I had a claim for $2200 as I needed a new compressor. This plus a loaner car for a week. Anything after this is cake.
