Unhappy Gearbox/Acceleration problem. Jaguar XK8 2008

Jaguar XK8 2008

Dear All,

Greetings from a newbie.

I have recently developed an issue whereby there is little or no acceleration going from a stop start, it's as if the car is going from Drive into 4th or 5th gear, very problematic and dangerous pulling away from junctions and lights and especially unhelpful in London where patience is in short supply. Car is fine when above 20-30 mph runs through the gears fine

Any thoughts or advice most welcome.

Justin

How many miles has the car done?
Maybe time for an oil change on the gearbox.

HI Peter,
The car has about 115K on it, changing the oil is one of the suggestions from the garage, thanks!

I agree with peter, but if it's as bad as you say, it may be too late for merely changing the fluid. Sounds line your clutches and bands may be on the way out.

Thanks Cee Jay, it's currently in the garage having the fluid changed so we'll see, fingers crossed!

Transmission fluid change is no bad thing but see if the garage can read the codes too. The performance problem could be something else like O2 sensors, blocked catalytic converter, etc. Guessing could be the expensive way to find the fault

Justin:

As a point of information, to prevent possible erroneous answers to your question: your car is not an "XK8"...that is the designation of the previous model (1996-2006). Your car is simply an "XK" (or, to use the factory code, an X150).
