In addition to the '07 XK, I have a Bimmer 530 and a 328, both '07. Both N52 engines.
Both pre turbo, around 225-250hp. Pretty much bulletproof. Both warranties ended about 2013.
530, 108K, owned since new: total post warranty cost over 10 years $8500, parts and hire-a-garage time. major refresh started around 90K "back to new".
328XiT: 113K, bought 2018 for $7K: additional up-to-snuff cost: $2900 for tires, plugs, coils, all fluids, electric water pump, brakes all around, dampers all around, starter, regulator, tranny oil and filter, power steering filter. Pretty much all PM, none broken when repaired.
On both, I do a lot of PM to make sure they're up to my standards. All DIY. Easy to work on, very reliable.
Both BMW's have been fine, nice cars but just cars. I love the Jag. If I had to sell one, it would be the 328.

The real decision comes down to which one gives you more pleasure? My other car is a Mercedes CLS550, which I could go through and do similar strikes against my Jag for the computer system, cabin space, and maintenance (much easier to find a BMW/Mercedes indy, since those cars are much more common). But at the end of the day driving the Jag makes me happy, while the CLS550 is just another grey sedan. For people like us, cars are emotional, not logical, and no matter how many categories and strikes allowed, you're still going to regret making the logical decision if it doesn't match up with the emotional decision you want to make.
Blasphemy!
CLS "just another sedan"!
That´s one of the most beautiful cars MB made in the last 30 years!
BMW styling rarely ages gracefully. They look old hat and outdated quicker than Jaguar.
I love classic BMWs like the E30, E38 and E39. I think the BMW design language almost always looks of its era. Look at an eighties 7-Series and look at an eighties S class. The Mercedes W126 is one of the finest vehicles they've ever made. I've owned two e38s and both were gorgeous but very of the 90s.
I think the CLS looks fantastic but I disliked the headroom, which really is just part of that design language, so not really a flaw but just part of life.

Agreed it was a breath of fresh air in their lineup in 2004. So fresh and successful that MB transferred all the visual cues to the E and C class in 2013, making the CLS nearly indistinguishable. Then Nissan stole the look in 2013 with the Altima, and Honda followed suit when they freshened up the Accord in 2017. Put the CLS in a parking lot with those cars and you're going to have look at the badges to tell the difference.
On the other hand, I walked out from a store yesterday and the first thing I noticed in the entire lot was a 2011 XK. It was a ways down one side and not parked obviously.
I have no idea what other vehicles were there, it was just a mash of boring otherwise.
I owned several BMWs before moving on to Jaguar.
There is not much I could really say against the BMWs,
but the Jags are a class of their own. At least XKs and (now older) XJs.
And don’t forget the emotional part of the equation…
… and also take into account that the X150 is considered by many the best / most reliable Jag ever built.
Just my two cents, maybe not unbiased.
Yet, consider it an informed view from Germany (sic).

Man thats a hard decision, I guess in my terms id look at how much I invested in both cars maintaining them, Considering which one I spent more maintenance on Id probably keep that one. Assuming its had more maintenance is due to me loving the car being at its top performance. I myself enjoy my Jaguar and have never given it a strike, actually find myself giving it +'s and shutting down whoever's negative opinion is towards it. I believe youll find it easier selling the BMW as there is mannny many Bmw's in every state you go to. Ive gone in states where ive never seen a jaguar and then theres plenty of states where youll see a couple of Jags in the same day. Plus you never see an Teenager in a jaguar meaning youll have a larger market if you sell the bmw seen plenty of teens in a BMW before.
I've also owned a few BMW's and thoroughly liked them. I respect the Mercs, but never wanted one.
But the XK I fell in love with, long before I bought one. Still feel that way. A timeless, completely classic design. The coupe is an almost perfect sweep of aluminum, like the corresponding AM. In a world of sharp flaring fenders and pointy things all around the body...the xk remains brilliant. Like the E-Type, updated to modern tech and design cues. Probably will own mine until I'm no longer able to get parts.

The Jag 07 has 92K miles The BMW has 178K Strike 1 for the BMW which BTW is a 328i E93 Vert 09
The Jag I bought mainly because I couldnt find a decent E93 under $15K I love the clam shell top, Strike 1 for the JAG
Purchase price is not a consideration. Long term reliability, maintainability and availability of parts is Im gonna say Strike 2 for the Jag. But its a 10 strike game.
Curb appeal, Jag Wins hands down Strike 2 BMW
Cabin room, I know I know , but its still a concern Jag Strike 3
Tranny Both are 6 speed auto , the BMW is a GM , the Jag is a ....Im not saying , Tie
Engine , hands down , that V8 is sweet, the I6 is a commuter but not a dog even with 177k on the clock , PO took good care of it. BMW strike 3
Bells and Whistles, the Jag has a lot , but be honest , the antiquated comp and control system is a PIA. The BMW on the other hand is , IDrive, is loaded, is easy to adapt to you and has massive support in the field, Sorry Jag Strike 4
Fun to drive factor, or what was it FarFignuggen Jag because its closer to a sports car , IF that is what you want. BMW strike 4
Ill stop here cause as you can see there are + / - for both. Fill in some strikes for me. I probably could just keep both but Im insurance poor with 6 vehicles.
As I said above, I have two BMW's and the X150. All happen to be '07's. All have been fine, but then I do all my own work.
BMW's and the X150 use a lot of parts made by the same Euro manufacturers: ZF tranny, Lemfoerder suspensions, Bilstein struts, Hella lighting, Denso ignition and AC in the X150, same from Bosch in the BMW's. Some of the parts are identical between the Jag and BMW's. And so on.
17 years on all three, and all pretty easy to take care of in the picky way I do.
All that said, the Jag is far, far more beautiful than any BMW. Difference is that you will always be able to find BMW parts, due to quantity made. Jag parts will get progressively tougher to find.

Well, if you consider ease of use in driving, the BMW is easier by far because you do not have to fiddle with turn signals, especially if you want to change lanes. In fact very few BMW buyers paid for the optional turn signal package.
(I am a not fully recovered BMW owner. It is a long process).
