I screwed up. I knew the Hurricane was coming, but I never imagined that it would get up to 3 feet in my garage! I didn't move my cars to higher ground when I had the chance, and I paid a mighty big price. My '07 Jag XKR, along with 4 other cars became fish food for Lake Houston on 8/29/17. It kills me to part out my new Jag. I'm trying hard to restore it, but getting the computers seems to be a major challenge. I'm looking desperately for a body computer, but am only finding XK8 versions. Anyone know where I can go to find this and a host of other electronic parts? Also debating scrapping the radio, since it's oozing brown water, too. Is there an after market radio that can keep all the controls, but add a backup camera and iphone capabilities? Please forgive my scewup, Jag World. I don't want to put a bullet in the bonnet and bury her quite yet!

Are you sure this is all worth the effort? In the end you'll have a flood damaged car.

Yes, I've decided to save it, even though it will be an unsellable "flooded" car forever. I'm planning to keep it forever anyway. It was a bucketlist car for me, so it stays with me. Hoping that the computer can be found....

 

There are totaled cars that show up now an then that have plenty of re-usable parts on them. I can't suggest where to look but I've seen a few posts here linking to some of them. Salvage yards, I would assume, would be a start??

You won't find any aftermarket electronics like that, these cars don't have a big enough market, for anyone to go 'after'.
Parts from stripped cars, or new from a dealer, are your options.
Google the part numbers, check ebay, check sponsors of this forum.
Good luck with getting 'er back on the road.

I would buy the whole thing, trailer it home and swap all the wiring and components over at one time. Looks like that one's had a busted window so I don't know how 'fresh' the interior is going to smell. I wouldn't just buy small parts as I think a lot of them need married via the SSD.

 

Alright, here is something to hang your hat on.
If you were planning on keeping the xkr for life prior to the damage, you would have had to have bought a parts car anyway. So a 5k exposure is not that bad. Hopefully your homeowners ins covered the Jag.

You can still sell parts off the parts car to further curb your losses. I would not replace anything till you had too. One note, when glass is broken in a wreck, the interiors usually get trashed before the junkyard has had a chance to cover them.

Sorry to hear about what your part of Texas has had to endure, we spent February down there so could picture it well.
I do not understand though the situation with these flood damaged vehicles, it sounds as if you have, or expect an insurance payout, but can keep the car and still have it licensed, but can never sell it.. it would seem likely that at some point a work around will be found to pass the things along? and then what happens?
Water damaged cars are never allowed into Canada, but then we have been warned that some states do not have that branding and they may leave the US via them?? Is that really possible?
I would rather keep some good stuff from the old car and enjoy shopping for another 2007-09 to replace it, after all they are just cars, not children.
Difficult choices I would think? Don't forget to flush diff and transmission..

Kentucky is one state that can be used to "wash" a title. You don't have to be a resident or even have an address in Kentucky to register it there.

 

If you buy a parts car, let us know. I, for one, can use some parts, specifically an overhead console unit. My garage door button broke and my temporary fix isn't holding. I'd imagine you'd get a few items you don't need sold here. You can ebay the rest.

 

FWIW, sometimes- but not always- you can repair submerged electrical components by giving them a good clean with 90+% isopropyl alcohol and compressed air. If there's any chips or other bits on the board that blew out, you may be able to find replacements for a buck or two.

If it's broke, you're not going to make it any worse by trying. Or, take a couple pictures of the boards and post them up and we can talk further once I see what you're working with.
