Idler pulley next to alternator
Whilst I am swapping out my alternator for the third time this weekend . I want to do the pulley next to the alternator.
I undid the bolt last time I was in there and it fowled the secondary air pipes so would not come out .
Is there a work around , has anyone done it successfully.

It's a ridiculous design. The only way to remove the standard bolt from that idler pulley, and the original flat pulley was replaced by a later design of flanged pulley by Jaguar so the original should be replaced, is to remove the two bolts from the secondary air unit device which is just below the highest pulley. This is from memory but I think the two bolts might be Allen machine bolts, that there are two rather than three or four, and the highest pulley is the water pump.
If you follow the air pipe upwards, you will see where it goes into this device which is bolted to the front of the crankcase and that if that device were loose, it would give a bit of wiggle room to allow the pipe to be pulled forward away a little from the head of the pulley bolt and provide enough room for removal.
Be advised that even with the two bolts removed, the whole secondary air system is still pretty rigid but there is enough movement to do the job. This is the Jaguar recommended procedure.
