Default Information Center Message

I was driving and stopped for a stop sign when my car stalled.

With my foot on the brake, it attempted to restart by itself and would start but immediately stall again and attempt to restart once again

I finally hit the gas when it began to catch and got the car running and drove home with no problem , approx 65 miles

When the car stalled, I was getting a message something like
SEVERE ENGINE FAULT -- I'mnot 100% sure as I want wearing my reading glasses

Does anyone have any experience with a similar problem or have list of the messages that may appear in the message center and a description?

The owner's handbook says ' Note: The message center information
messages and their meanings are detailed
within the appropriate subject sections. '

I searched the document but could not find this message

Thanks

Jerry

Take it to an Advance Auto or Autozone and ask them to read the computers codes. They'll do this for free.

If there are any computer codes these will tell you with much greater detail what's going on.

Jimi,
I had the same problem with mine. It did it once in the same manner as yours did. Mine didn't set any codes at that time but it wasn't long after that I got the replace thermostat code.

I had the code checked and it came up as a thermostat.. My mechanic came to the same conclusion but I needed the car so I didnt get it corrected right away ( thinking it was ONLY a thermostat)

I just had the thermostat replaced, so here to fingers crossed

I'll admit the message about SEVERE ENGINE FAULT had me worried

Thanks for the responses

Would help if the car had a temperature gauge too.
