Instrument display upside down

Instrument display upside down
I have an '07 XK convertable. Occasionally the LCD display between the Speedo and the Tach will turn upside down. There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to when this occurs. Sometimes it comes on upside down when I start the car. Other times it will flip while I'm driving. I have tried to correct it by switching the engine off and then re-starting. This does not always work. Sometimes it corrects itself while I'm driving, other times it stays upside down. On one occasion it began to slide sideways very rapidly causing everythiing to blur. This lasted a few minutes and then self corrected. I brought it to the dealer's attention but he said they cannot recreate it so they do not know what to fix. Anyone else see this?

Upside down display fixed.
I thought I would leave a follow-up to this issue in case any one else encounters it. I had brought this issue to my dealer's attention numerous times, but since it never seemed to happen when I would bring it in they would not address it. Well finally last week it flipped over and stayed that way permanently. When I took it to the dealer the service people were all amazed. They had never seen this issue before. It even drew a crowd of interested observers, including a salesman who tried to sell me a new car. Well it turns out there is a thing called an Instrument Pack, I assume this is a specializd computer, which they had to replace. Interesting side issue was that they had to reprogram both key fobs as part of the repair. As luck would have it, one of the fobs was defective so I got a new fob as well. All covered by extended warranty.

I actually saw that happen on a car. Too bad the dealer had not seen it before. The whole instrument pack gets replaced and programmed to the car. The key information is stored in the instrument pack hence the key programming. First time I saw the display do that I was kind of awestruck but the Ipack fixed it.

Rahtok,
No such thing as 'lifetime tranny oil' Change the oil at 50,000 miles. Check with Eastside transmission in Bellevue; they can give you an explanation.................
I have no commercial connection with them...................but I did watch them rebuild a ZF unit last year................
Cheers, Adrian

I'm not familiar with the ZF 6 speed but I like spending efficiently and found this on

According to the australian petrolium institute: Key To Lubricants their ASP15 classification includes the following fluids:
-Ford Specification No. M2C 919D
-Mercon SP Fluid Part No. XT-6QSP
-Shell ATF M-1375.4
-ZF 6-speed Automatic Transmission Fluid, (Shell M-1375.4)
Mercon SP Fluid is a newer transmission fluid made by shell for Ford dealers. Its easy to find online, and it retails for around $4:00+/quart. Things get really interesting when you look at the specs of lifeguard 6 found in the MSDS:
http://www.tsgparts.net/images/pdf/Lifeguardfluid6.pdf and compare them to the specs of Mercon SP:
http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricant...ERCON%20SP.pdf and http://www.fcsdchemicalsandlubricant...us175325us.pdf
VERY similar specs, and the same color fluid.
You can get the lifeguard6/Shell M-1375.4 fluid for $4.68/quart here: http://www.ryderfleetproducts.com/cg...uct_detail.jsp
