Hi guy's, I have a 07 XK. When I travel at around forty miles an hour there is a noise coming from under the car. When I accelerate it goes away. Sounds like a hole in the exhaust or something touching the body. It's a very annoying sound. Has anybody heard this, could it be something loose in the muffler? Also I have another problem. When the engine is hot and I stop somewhere for ten minutes and I start the car it starts but 2 seconds later it stalls. This happens for the forth time and then is starts normally
. But the steering becomes hard to turn.Have to turn the engine off and restart, then all is well. Any idea what's going on.Your help would be very much appreciated

There was a TSB (JTB00268) issued for the 4.2L cars that was to do with heat soak '4.2L NA Hot-Soak Re-Start Issues'
Situation: The customer may report a rough engine start or stall following hot soak of 20 to 30 minutes.
Cause: Fuelling calibration not robust for the market winter blend 10% ethanol fuel.
The solution was to update the Powertrain Control Module with new software.
There was then another technical document issued because people were complaining that the fan was running after the engine was switched off following the application of the above TSB:
Issue: After completing technical bulletin JTB00268, some customers have reported that the engine fan is running after the engine has been switched off.
Cause: JTB00268 updates the engine control module with revised software. The software lowers the engine temperature by running the fan for a longer period of time after switching off the engine.
Action: After completing JTB00268 please explain to the customer that the engine fan may run for a longer period of time than they would normally experience, and this is as a result of the software download. This is expected and is normal. The fan will stop running after a short period of time.

If the noise occurs around 1200 rpm then it almost certainly is the exhaust resonance, quite common on the early cars. Jaguar developed a brace that goes around the exhaust and bolts to the transmission case - it is not cheap but it cures the noise instantly and permanently. I had that done on my 07 XK because I found the noise so irritating - it occurs in just the rpm band you use in normal driving. Now driving the XK is bliss.

Thank you very much.Jaguar comfirmed that the stalling was TSB (JTB00268) and I am bringing the car in for Heat Soak Pre start Issues. Also the exhaust Jaguar has developed a brace that goes around the exhaust. Thank you very much for your advise. Jaguar will be putting a brace around the exhaust.
