Jump Start 2009 XK8
I am an idiot and left the dome light on for two days in my 2009 XK Coupe. I need to jump start it. I read the owner's manual directions, but they are far from clear. I tried and failed to jump it. Now the headlights are faintly but continually blinking.
What I tried so far, based on owner's manual instructions: Standing at rear and looking forward, removed the cover on the back left of the boot area. Connected red to red on live battery of my VW wagon. Connected red to red on my Jag. Removed spare tire cover. Connected black to black on VW. Connected black to a screw/terminal on the left side of the spare tire area. Tried to start. Smoke came from the black on my Jag.
Trying to avoid calling for a service truck. Any help is appreciated.

Does your connected setup look like this:
According to the Driver's Handbook for the XK/XKR, it's no direct connections to the vehicle battery for jump starting.
The positive remote charge terminal behind the LH light cover goes to the positive battery terminal on your VW.
The negative charge terminal next to the spare wheel goes to the negative battery terminal on your VW.
The VW engine should NOT be running when you try to start the XK.

Smith, in this case, I think the better part of valor would be to pull the battery from the car and place it on a charger (unless you can get a power cord over to the car). Then give the battery 12 hours or so on the charger (set to 12 VDC/10 amp charge). Then you should be able to start the car normally and be good. If you don't have a charger, you can get them fairly cheap at the parts store or talk to one of your neighbors, I am sure one of them will have a charger.
