I’m new to the forum and have just purchased a 2002 xkr for my wife. The car is in excellent condition for its age. I will enjoy working on it and doing the necessary repairs as they occur. It only has 45000 miles on it and am curious if I should change out the timing tensioner with that low amount of miles.
Welcome to the forum. As you have a 2002 model it must be an X100 rather than an X150 so it would be better to get your question moved. However, I believe that the improved tensioners had been fitted by 2002 so, with only 45k miles, I don't think that replacement is necessary unless there is some rattling going on.

A portion of the 2002 4.0L had the 3 Gen tensioners ,but it depends when the engine was manufactured, not the car. Just pulled the Right Cam Cover and visually confirm typed. The Gen. 2 were not acceptable either. Gen. 3 are metal. The Gen.3 were in the 2003 4.2L forward.
