Looking for someone in the Dallas area to check a 08 XK - RESOLVED
New to the forum. I’m interested in a 2008 XK coupe that’s for sale at Texas Cars Direct.
2718 Forest Lane Dallas 75234.
I would like someone who is familiar with XK’s to look it over, listen to it, check for leaks, check all power features, windows, seats, heat, A/C, etc. and let me know their opinion.I’m located in Las Vegas and considering purchasing it without looking at it. I would have it shipped here.
I would be happy to pay for your time!
Thank you
Brian

Well it arrived two weeks ago. 08 with 46k miles. So far all is good. Everything works!
I’ve replaced the battery, changed the oil & filter, cabin filter and added a CTEK.
You would be better off to give Texas Cars Direct a refundable deposit contingent on their allowing you to have a nearby Dallas Jaguar dealer do a Pre-Purchase Inspection at your expense. That PPI must be done to the Jaguar Select Certified Pre-Owned Warranty standards as documented by that checklist. It'll note what repairs are needed together with the cost of parts and labor. Cost is probably around $250, but you should be able to recover it and maybe more depending on what's needed and your negotiating skills. If you're interested in knowing if it was in an accident or had any paint work done, a similar PPI can be had from a body shop that is approved to do aluminum repairs.
If TCD says you don't need a PPI, run - don't walk - away!

Good luck!

I hadn’t thought of that. Great suggestion!
Thank you Stuart for taking the time to reply.
I will look into that approach tomorrow.
Carfax shows that most of the service on this car was done at this location... I would give them a call and see if they could possibly give you some background on vehicle...

Thank you TexasTraveler that was VERY helpful!
I spoke with Russell at JAG-MAC, before I could finish reading the VIN # he rattled off the owners name. He has done the maintenance on this XK as well as the gentleman’s other Jags. The previous owner is a retired dean at SMU. Russell says he’s very meticulous! The previous owner just had Russell do what ever the car needed taken care of prior to trading it in. Russell says that’s the type of guy he is. He is very familiar with the car and says it needs nothing and I can’t go wrong with it.
Will see, as I put a deposit on it.

I spoke with service at Jaguar Dallas about a PPI. They no longer offer to do it. When they did it, it was $295 and covered everything they would to make it a certified car.
Dallas and Frisco are the same owner, so I assume if Dallas doesn't do it, neither will Frisco... Park Place I am not sure about?!?
A bit of a beef. Frisco (and Dallas) won't service my 2008 XJ8L. They say that because it is over 10 years old. They recommend I drive to the Grapevine Jaguar dealer for service (much further away - I live 30 miles north of Dallas). I've bought parts from them in the past, my wife bought a new Rover from them, and they sponsor the Dallas area Jag Club (I also have a '69 E-Type). Oh, and in the past, they serviced our 2006 XJ8L and our 2004 S-Type. I now do my Jag business elsewhere. Not bad people; just a bad policy.
There are 2 or 3 excellent JLR dealers in Dallas as I did the XF launch there many years ago. I'm sure they would be your best source. Texas Direct is one of the biggest independent dealers in the country and generally get good reviews.

That's good enough for me..... when I bought my used '08 XKR it came from a gentleman who owned multiple 6-figure cars that were all in pristine condition. That's who you want to buy a used exotic from, and it looks like you found one!
