Default Lubricating the hood mechanism ?

Hello,

I've noticed when I open the hood that there's some tiny squeaking sounds expressing the mechanism is pulling hard to open it.
So, as the car is now quite old, I wonder if , like any other mechanism, the hood articulations shouldn't be lubricated sometime.

If yes, does any of you convertible owners ever did so ?
I think that should be done with a good oil like the one used in industrial sewing machines or production lines, or maybe just WD40 would be enough?
Would you have any suggestion about how to do it without staining the interior liner?

Thanks.

Grease tends to attract abrasive dirt which can cause more problems than are solved in such a dirty area. Maybe some graphite?

great idea! I used to use a graphite spray back when I was refurbing electric pianos. I’ll have to get some.

I know, I spoke about it as people used to speak about it in an XK8 subject...
I checked the thing today stopping the opening half way. They definitely are lubricated. It appears they are with a very liquid thing. I then used few drops of industrial sewing machine lubricant and after 3 cycle it didn't squeaks anymore.

I use white lithium grease spray on hinges and stuff like that. Don't know if it's the best or not... works for me. Silicone spray would be my second choice. The lithium grease seems to last a little longer though.
