Smile Michelin Super Pilot Sport Tires

Hey Guys and Gals,

I just replaced the Pirelli P Zeros with Michelin Super Pilot Sport tires and the difference is quite surprising. The P Zeros lasted about 12k miles including two track days. The Super P.S's feel much softer and sticky and seem to track the road better. They give me much more confidence. I can take off quicker and throw the car around a bit more rather than always having to be gentle with the car so as not to spin the tires. I can't wait to try them on the track. Has anyone else gone to the Michelins and if so what do you think?

I Took the XKRS wing off and replaced it with the spoiler from the 175 anniversary model. Now the car has it's beautiful lines back. The spoiler is a little taller than the XKR spoiler and is rated for 175 mph so hopefully I haven't reduced the down force too much. I just ordered some carbon fiber mirror covers, a dead pedal and carbon fiber hood grills. I'll post those when I get them installed. The last pic is an XKR. It gives you some perspective on the difference in height of the spoilers. I really love Jaguars! I'm waiting for the F Type Coupe RS!

Peace Out!

I've heard a lot of great things about them. Thanks for the report!

I opted for the Bridgestone S-04, which are nearly their equal, but were $500+ less. Already took one road trip with some massive high speed sweepers, and talk about a stable (and quite) tire!

The mark of a really good tire is how it performs when half or more of its life is gone.

I ran Bridgestone's on my 3000GT VR4, and after about the 3rd set I stopped buying them because when they get about 60% use they turn into round rocks. The material they use gets really hard the older they get.

BTW, I put my current (rear) Michelin PSS's on at 22,645 miles. I am now at 34,474 and it looks like I will get another couple thousand out of them. The fronts have over 16K on them.

Where did you order the carbon fiber mirror covers and dead pedal?

Default Big improvement

Now you have the best looking XKR-S on the planet!

IMHO the speed pack wing is a huge improvement plus you have all the other XKR-S tid bits which I do think give the car the sportier edge it deserves.

The stock wing was just too much.

PSS here's too, so far so good, better grip but a little noisier than the Hankooks I had.

I guess I am in the minority, I like the XKR-S just as it is...except I wish they used carbon fiber hood vents and mirror covers to better match the carbon rear wing, diffuser, and front splitter. Luckily, these items can be bought aftermarket.

The 175 spoiler also looks very good, I just personally prefer the aero package the way Jaguar designed it.

What is great is having the option to make the car look like you want.

I also can't wait to get some better tires than the PZero's....I've never been a fan of them. I wonder how the car would have reviewed on the track with super sports on it. Probably also shaves the 0-60 and 1/4 mile times a hair if it is giving better grip off the launch.

Interesting, I wonder which set you had. I'm now on my 6th or 7th set of Bridgestones. Everything from base Turronza's (on a Galant VR4!) to Several RE-11's and have never experianced the hardening compound you discribe. Stiffing on deflection, yes, but hardening compound...no.
The one Bridgestone I did have trouble with was the RE960 Pole Possition. The compound was stunning, but the block design in the mid-tread area didnt hold up well to track events. They (the blocks) were too small and tended to lay over and wear one edge leaving you with a sawtooth shaped surface. I see the RE970 beefed up those blocks significanlty, so it had to have been a common complaint.
If you want to play on some serious performance tires, I can't praise Bridgesones RE-11 enough! The grip is shocking wet or dry! I think Everyone deserves at least one year on RE-11's (which is about all they will last) just to know where the bar is set in a high perfomance street tire!

Vince

I replaced the mediocre Dunlops on my XKR175 with Michelin Super Sports and they're better in every respect...best tire I've ever had on any car. I wish they made them in sizes to fit my other cars. They have longer tread life than any of the other summer tires I've had and the overall performance is superb. They seem to have no drawbacks at all.

These new michelin are surely good but what they have done in the past is without comments, they last but are bad in all weathers, so bad that i will never consider these too.

Not bad at all: under $1,300/set at Tirerack for XKR; under $1,500/set for XKR-S. There is a rebate going on now, as well. I may buy a set now, even though my fronts will last another year or so. The rears are about 1/2 worn at 20,000-ish miles.

Much better than $2,000/set for my Cayenne GTS's Michelin Latitudes!

lol..subject to this non sense....ahahahahaahh.....are you sure you can handle it??

I recognize michelin in your attitude, they are not fine tires at all, they last for those who can't buy new tires, or like to run 30000 miles with a xkr...i will change them every 10000 km myself, i hate these economy, you end up regretting it, when you need grip.

Even if they improve, we should not discuss michelin cause of you guys...let me laugh...michelin is pure bullshit.

20000 miles with a xkr 175 , and you said half worn, lol, i will have changed them long time ago, you see, i changed them at 15000 km myself, here is all the difference, you will run 40 000 miles out of tires "that last" , i will use mine in 15000 km . 10000 miles for me - 400000 miles for yourself.

And do you remember really how were your original tires when new, you guys compare tires from updating old tires to new ones.
With all the xj i had pirelli were the best tires and i had one michelin that i regretted the first day.
