No. The rear window module is an optional addition to the basic device at this time. I'm not sure if WhiteXKR can build the rear window module to work without the other circuitry in his basic module. Search this forum for his posts and pm him.

battery question: I've seen it mentioned several times, as above, that it is wise to lock an XK every time to save on battery drain. Does this still hold for later models? Mine's a '15 and I'd sure like this battery to last a while!

Thanks

The car stays in 'convenience mode' with most of its electronic modules powered up until it is locked, on the assumption that you are likely to start it up again & drive off. If it isn't restarted, it progressively powers things off over about 30 minutes. However, if you lock it, the power-down happens much quicker, with most modules shut off immediately and the rest over about 5 minutes. Since the car draws about 10 Amps fully powered up, leaving it unlocked represents a significant hit on the battery.

My guess is that in order to get the rear window module you must get the remote top unit because the window module is an add on to the remote top unit. I have both on my car and I am very pleased. You will have to ask Steve about the window module.

Hi all,

I have spoken to wrangler and they will do a window option module only, but as it will be the fully module with the auto roof module disabled, it will only be a saving of about 10%. So you may as well buy the full module and get all the knobs and whistles that it includes. I will have to put it on my Christmas list.

Well I have taken the plunge and bought the full module. I will let you know how the fitting goes. The bit I do not look forward to is removing the door panel as you never know how they are attached and end up breaking the clips or do not find the hidden screw or bolt . Any advise on this would be appreciated.
Thanks for all the help so far. I must get my picture the right way up.

If I remember correctly there is no removal of the door panel. You only need to remove the rear seat cushion and the back of the driver(left) side seat cushion. You will be very happy with your new toy.

Jagtony,

Several forum members, including myself, have posted comments on their own DIY installation. See my post #153: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-109235/page8/ for my installation tips that are not included in Steve's instructions.

I note that you're in the UK with presumably a RHD car. I don't know how much Steve's instructions differ for LHD North American cars, but door panel removal was not part of the installation instructions for my car. The only things I had to remove were the back seats (bottoms and backs) and the rear center backrest in order to access the fuse box. Steve's instructions are outstanding, and you should have no problems if you follow them carefully.

My advice, before you start your installation, is to (1) read Steve's instructions from start to finish, and (2) read the posts in the thread that Steve started: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-video-109235/

Good luck with your install, and as I previously stated, if I can do it, so can you!

Stuart

Hi Stuart, Ralphwg,

Thanks for the replies. Not sure where I picked up the door panel removal from but as you both state the proceeds does not involve removing it anyway. I have now read throught Steve's online instructions and as you state the process does not seem to difficult. However, I will read the threads you have suggested before proceeding. I have had the car up on the ramp to have a look at the underside which all seems in good order. I have a bit of rust on the rear subframe, so will give this a rub down and repainted for the winter. Must try and post some pictures of the car and the underside. But not upside down this time.

Tony,
We're experiencing a "polar inversion" weather phenomenon right now in the USA, so that might explain why your photos turn upside down as they cross the pond from the UK to this forum in the USA. Chalk it up to just another consequence of global warming.
