XK / XKR ( X150 ) 2006 - 2014

New to the marque, considering a late model XK Cab. Could you answer some question?

Did you take one for a drive yet? Solo, or with family? Curious as to your impressions.

Also, small observation: from Sharx's photo it looks like those rear seats are maybe not too bad after all, BUT... you'll want to buy a wind deflector (very effective when the top is down and there are plenty of threads here about them), and you can't have that in place with any passengers in the back. (Other than a cat, which I now know. NOT my idea. Long story.)

Alternatively Jagwranglers remote roof module has the option to control the rear windows so they may be raised when top down to further reduce turbulence.

Your info is about 20 years out date. Modern Jags (late 90s onwards) are on a par with any other high end OEM.

This is true, but the reputation persists.

Regarding Jaguar reliability, I have driven my various jaguars on at least 12 different road trips of more than 2,000 miles with no mechanical difficulties what so ever starting with my 2000 XJR up to and including my current XKR vert. If one maintains his/her Jaguar according to Jaguar's recommended service schedule that person should have little if any difficulties in keeping their Jaguar on the road.

In my garage sits a 2007 XKR and a 2012 E550, both convertibles. My purchase was the XKR, my wife's the E550. Seems very appropriate. Both push just over 400 hp, and are similar yet very different cars. My car turns heads and people ask what it is, and I like that. It also sounds amazing and feels like a sports car. Her car is much more common in styling, we're likely to pull up next to another one at any traffic light. She still out-muscles most other cars at green (and enjoys doing so), but it's more of a sleeper. And it has a strange sound, very low groan and very quiet. I still enjoy driving it, but choose my car every time when given the choice.

We have 2 kids, girls, one is 9 and one is 15 and both are petite. When they choose, they choose the Merc because it's backseat is more like a sedan. The back seats in the XKR are very firm and very narrow and upright. My 9 year old has no complaints in my car, my 15 year old is uncomfortable. She fits but doesn't like it and I hear about it. Loves it when she's shotgun though.

Sounds like you have practical covered with your SUV. If you have $70K to burn on a fun weekend car, don't by an E550. Have some fun and consider the XKR, go drive one and you'll see. It is true luxury sport. If you get one and are only going to drive it once in a while, get the battery tender that was suggested to keep it charged and ready to go. And get one much newer than mine.

Well, the reputation persists because I read about electrical bugaboos and then research places like these forums and see really weird electrical/battery problems.

I Turo'd a mid 90s SL600 a while back. Hated that a V12 was that quiet...

I can't find one to test drive at the moment. Waiting to see if one shows up on CarMax. A 2009 showed up for 24 hours before being bought. That's a good sign in the end. She'll be driven at least a few times a week. I'll take her out for morning coffee from time to time, and the weekend every weekend!

How's the audio system? The Maserati's is awful for the $$$$.

Best not look at the competing marque's forums then. No one posts on a board to boast how good a car is. I would have steered SMBO away from a Beemer had I not taken this factor into account.

Moat battery problems are avoidable by use of a tender.

NEVER buy a car from Carmax!!

One of the biggest benefits of the Jaguar XK is that there are plenty of people who adore their cars, and preserve them almost obsessively. Buying a XK from a car dealer that doesnt carry better cars that it may have been traded on, is like going to Dominos for pizza in Manhattan.

The tolerance level to the same battery problems in other cars seems to be higher.

I'll pass your experience on to the BMW community and tell them that battery problems don't actually exist.
