Default New XK/R editions announced

The XK Signature is just a trim package, but the Dynamic-R has the full performance kit. Both now seem to be the 'standard' package for each model.

New Jaguar XK special edition models revealed

Not sure if these are UK-only or for wider markets.

Nice additions but, a glaring absence of the 8sp transmission. Not understanding why Jaguar refuses to put the fantastic 8sp into the XKR? They are in the XJR so, they can handle to torque and the power...

These aren't facelifts or updates, just new sales packages. The Portfolio edition is gone, but so are the base XK & XKR. Things that used to be options, like the Performance Exhaust, Black Pack and Speed Pack, are now standard on the "XK Dynamic-R"

Actually, I've just noticed - the standard wheel for the Dynamic-R is the dark-grey Vortex with silver highlights, the same as on my 75. To make things worse, it has the Black Pack trim and the Speed Pack bodykit.

Bugger. Mine's going to be even less visually distinctive now; it will look just like a Stratus Grey Dynamic-R. I may have to consider reinstating the 'mascara' stripes over the wheel arches.

So let me get this straight....the hierarchy is:

XK, XKR, XK Dynamic R, XKR-S, XKR-S GT

is that correct?

What model year are we talking about!? Isn't it very late in the game for them to be announcing special editions for a model year that is already half over?

Yeah, basically, I think they've made the Black Dynamic Pack the standard XKR. So what were expensive options are now standard. To give you an idea, my 75 was £85k new - now you could buy the same car (including everything except the extra 20 HP and the 186 MPH top speed) for £70k.

Lothar, the UK hierarchy is now:

XK Signature, XK Dynamic R, XKR-S (the GT is not mentioned)

So you get the suspension and body kit from the XKR-S without the added power? I am not too keen on the front fascia nor the big wing on the XKR-S. I could do without or with a pop-up spoiler int he back. Why would I want the harsher suspension and "flamboyant" body works but not the power?

I personally like the XF SC especially because it is such a sleeper car compared to an XFR. I prefer that over the all "gold chains" look with empty pockets ....

I sold my 2011 XKR 175 last June and bought the more performance oriented 2013 XKR with dynamic pack and performance exhaust in July. I was very disappointed in 175 limited edition (no performance upgrades just the speed pack body kit). My 2013 has the same suspension and exhaust as the XKR-S. I can go beyond (610hp) the engine performance of the XKR-S (550hp) with a simple Eurocharged engine tune for $899. I got a great deal on the 2013 XKR with only 300miles from new in pristine condition and $60,000 less than MSRP of the XKR-S. Why pay $60,000 for a flamboyant body kit and only 550hp?

Of all the cars I own and owned my new 2013 XKR is my favorite.

No, not the R-S body kit - you get the less-flamboyant Speed Pack bodykit (and you need that to provide the stability for the 174 MPH top speed). As I said, it's what used to be the XKR + Dynamic Pack (including Speed Pack + Black Pack) + Performance Exhaust, but with Vulcan wheels instead of Kalimnos.

Another thing: only 5 colour options for the Dynamic R: polaris white, stratus grey, ultimate black, BRG, Italian racing red. The XK Signature adds dark sapphire. So, a significantly reduced palette.

However, I can't see these packages on Jaguar USA - this may be UK-only, or Europe-only, or some other geography. Or you guys may get these for the next model year.

You got a fantastic deal on your car! Mine wasn't as good but the dealer takes care of me with rainy day loaners, and parts discounts.

As far as engine upgrades as long as you add the freer flowing exhaust all the XKR/s model will end up around the same HP with a pulley and tune.

I appreciate that, within a 100 miles of me there are no XKRs for sale with the dynamic pack and still were at the same price as what I paid for my XKR-S. I am not very keen on the XKR-S "look" however I appreciate the rarity of the car and that I will not see another one, except for maybe at a car meet. For this exclusivity I would have paid extra but not for just the looks without the bang. I as well paid $60,000 less than what the XKR-S was new and as I said most "used" XKRs in may area are about the same still with the dynamic pack.

I'm waiting for an 8 speed with a F Type gear selector (the pop up is not attractive to me) unless the F Type Coupe sucks me in first.

I don't know why Jaguar put a traditional looking gear shift in the F-type. Most exotic Ferraris, Lambos, McLarens, etc. don't have a gear shift lever. They are useless with modern paddle shifters.

I rarely use the paddle shifters around town where I do most of my driving, especially when I turn the wheel past 45 degrees and I can't find them. It is easier for me to just reach over and pull the shifter to sport mode to give me a lower gear. Maybe if I used them more I'd get used to them.

When I test drove the F type I only used the +- shift lever as it was a lot more comfortable for me than the paddles and it only took me a couple of shifts to get used to it.

On a track it would probably be a different story.

Using the paddles is definitely a matter of practice. Just like a manual transmission, all shifting should be complete with paddles prior to entering a corner. By doing that, you will never get + / - crossed up.

I think he's talking more about a 1-2 shift that happens when you make a right turn at a traffic light. It is a little annoying to not be able to grab second gear until the wheel is almost completely straight again.
