Default Newby's first Qs including performance exhaust

Hello all,

I shall leave a detailed introduction aside as I have already posted in the new members section:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/new-member-area-intro-must-5/hello-almost-xkr-owner-187409/#post1739806

My soon to be collected (143 hours - not that I'm counting!) 2011 (MY2012) XKR has done 34,000 miles and has the speed and black packs. The advert said 'performance exhaust' which I assumed to mean the performance active exhaust option. Dealer (main dealer in fact) didn't seem to know about it being an option and I initially feared they were confusing the active exhaust they all have with the performance active exhaust option. However, a quick glance at the build list I thought said 'performance active exhaust' (I have requested a copy) and I'd swear it sounded louder than the last one I requested. Soooo

Q1) Short of getting it up on a ramp to look at the centre section how can I tell for sure?

Q2) Should the outcome of the above affect my decision whether to remove Fuse 19?

Also, somewhat randomly,:

Q3) Should I have a standard size rear number plate or the XK specific size? Really not sure what looks best...

Q4) What else should I be prioritising at this point?

I do also have a question regarding interior trim but I need to sort some photos as context before posing.

Many thanks in advance!

I have the performance active exhaust on my 13 XKR. If you do have the performance active system it will be listed on the build sheet. In addition I have the Mina exhaust backend and get compliments regarding it all the time. I have never removed fuse 19, so I can not comment on that.

These cars sometimes have water pump problems. See if you can get the maintenance record from the dealer to see if it has been replaced. Barring that I think one of the first things that I would do would be to buy an OBD reader and down load the Torque application so that you can monitor both the water temperature and voltage as long as you leave the obd reader plugged in.

Read about the last 40 pages of topics on this forum. From the fuse 19 question I assume you are but there's a ton of good info on this forum, some hidden in oddball places. Also download the manuals and read through them, both the operators and service manual. A lot of folks are scared of the 'exotics' needlessly. The pedigree is more of a fine looking mutt vs. a pure bread whatever. Parts were sourced from everything under Ford's corporate umbrella in the early cars and I'm sure you'll find some strange makers labels on yours. The electronics are supposed to be bulletproof but are more the result of a midnight liaison between Lucas and Microsoft. It's not 'if' something oddball will happen so much as 'when' it'll happen. again, research reduces the pain and suffering.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I'm definitely coming into this with my eyes open (backed by a 12 month main dealer warranty :-)
The car seems an absolute minter and has been serviced regularly regardless of how few miles since the last one. However, owning a Range Rover and, until recently, a TVR I am used to the odd, seemingly random, glitch.
Last night I woke up at 2am and couldn't sleep so I downloaded the manual and read it from virtual cover to cover. Fortunately I took screen grabs of the key things I found in it because I'm not sure how much I retained. Too much information and too much excitement!

If you survived a TVR, you should have no issues with the Jaguar
Re the rear plate I had an XFS with the curved plate and liked it. It fits well on the XK too.
I had Demon Plates make up a set for me.

I always use Demon Plates - love their domes plates. Very smart looking car you got there!

So I have been sent the build sheet. Am I right in thinking the bold are options? Is the 'performance active exhaust' referring to the option which gives you the one from the XKR-S? Thanks!

"Active Performance Exhaust" is the standard OEM exhaust for the XKR. It is not an aftermarket exhaust.

The Performance Active Exhaust was a £1280 option on the XKR in 2011.

I think you are right, the items in bold are options. I'm not sure if the performance active exhaust is the same that is on the XKR-S. If you get under the car you will find that the exhaust has the X pipe fairly close to the transmission.

I'm a fairly big chap. Wish I had a ramp or inspection pit. I might have to send my six year old under there! :-)

Does your phone do video? Tape it to the wife's broom and 'sweep' it from the sides to see what's under there.

I'm puzzled. I read your personal profile and noted that you're from Great Britain. What compelled you to choose the screen name Stormtrooper?

OK, so you need an Empire decal for the back. I really wanted to get a Rebel Alliance one for mine since the coupes look so spaceshippy.
