Default No more bug eyes, eyebrow lids mock up.

As a few of us hate the bug eye look of our older cars, there has been a few posts on mods for the lights. So got out some vinyl and did some trials. Did the top of the lamp first ,then decided to cover the reflector to. IT does look well IMO. Vinyl is just layed on rough as was just a trial run, but easy to get on without any bubbles or creases.Took some pics of just the eyebrow first with no reflector covered then it all. Looks better when the reflector is covered too. If i decide to do it i am going to do it with Plastidip black with a glossifier on top, the gloss vinyl does look ok, but is a bit bright, i suppose i could get away with it if needed. Think it will have a better look and look more factory looking.
Any view welcome. Some people say leave as is , but sure we all like to do our own thing.

I agree that with the reflector covered is better.
Much more aggressive look.
Leave it on for a few days/weeks, to see if you grow to like it or hate it.
Reading from my phone so I don't see your signature, so what color is your car? Some of the photos make the paint appear a dark blue, so the black eyebrows don't match as well.
This is something I'd never be able to match with my 'radiance'.
Since I don't see my 'bug eyes' year round, and only had the car for one driving season, they haven't started to annoy me (and hopefully they never will).
Nice job, keep us posted on your thoughts / upgrades.

Cheers car is midnight black, looks a bit different in photo, crap phone and dark garage, won't have dip till monday so will do then. It does look more aggressive.

looks nice, I really like it.

I did something similar with wrap on mine but I had to be more subtle with it because I was working with black wrap on a silver car which obviously stands out. I could have done more with silver wrap but i couldnt match the car colour and it would look odd.

But at least I got rid of the orange bit, then I replaced the orange bulbs with blue white leds.

Thanks Bruce, as i said it is just a rough guide just to get feedback, but the more i look at it, it looks good. It is great to hide the orange reflector as it looks dated looking. When i do it, it will be all the one piece and done with Plastidip. I too changed all my bulbs to leds and the indicator to chrome effect. The great thing is the headlights are easy to take out to spray. All i have to do is wait for the dip to come.

Looks much better than I thought it would. I like the "lids". By the way, what kind of wheels do you have on your XKR? they are very nice.

It will come to me soon guys but I'm trying to remember which car forum I was on were they separated the front lense and painted the housing black so it would look more aggressive.

I'll do some digging and hopefully come up with some pics soon

This is a start
Looks like they have eliminated the Orange reflective strip within the head light

Saw this some time ago as well, but not going to go down that route, if the light didn't go back well after seperating you could get giving or discolouration. Thing I will try my mod first. Easy to remove Anyway.

What I like powerhouse is the fact it looks factory just unsure how the plasti dip straight on the headlight would look on a vehicle upwards of $250k AUD when new

I don't see any bug eyed look at all and I would never put vinyl decals on the lights of a Jaguar. But that is my opinion.

Powerhouse, I say mod it to your hearts content, but, my only concern with plasti dip is that you will not get a very smooth finish. you may want to try a very light window tint applied to the headlight.

Got dip today, but won't get a chance to do it till the weekend maybe, if i'm not happy i can take it off, that's the good thing about it. The tint looks good, would blend in well with black.

Tint does look pretty good albeit I would go a shade lighter. I would consider placing the tint on the headlights but am concerned about being pulled over. Good luck with your project.

Looks great! I agree with sticking with the dip for now just because it's easier to remove (if you decide you don't like it, or if you sell the vehicle)

Well got the job finished, took the lights out and masked the areas, 4 coats of plasti dip and 3 coats of glossifier. Came out good and flat with a nice shine. When i fitted the light back i found that the black dip was more of a dark grey/black if you get my meaning. A bit of head scratching followed. Then i thought maybe the guy who sprayed my boot spoiler may have some paint left. He had , so lights out again and masked the area again, 2 coats of the black and then a clear coat. Job done and IMO i love it. Came out better than i expected and looks good to me. If i did it again i would just do 2 coats of dip (heavy) and 2 glossifier, then paint your own color on top. The advantage of the dip underneath is you can remove the whole effect if needed. When you do your finish coat the tape has to be removed when the tape is wet.
Any views on it welcome, i'm thick skinned, anyway i love it.

Got my grill sprayed black too, did it in a gloss color, stands out more, does look better.

No comments on the R-S badge please, i got the front and rear genuine R-S badges on ebay, never seen them for sale and was an impulse buy and stuck them on for the photo just to see what there like, will be removing the S.

It looks great. I have been toying with painting my grill gloss black, but I also have two grills in the rear bumper (F/X Design bumper/diffuser), and I just don't have the time to mask, tape, spray,.... on both ends of the car right now. But, you might inspire me, maybe the headlights as well. Good job
