Hi guy's, just took my XK out of hibernation and fitted the display. Unfortunately my OBD11 sender unit ELM327 ( https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-WiFi-....c101195.m1851 ) is an old one about four or five years old and the display cannot connect with it. Is my unit the wrong one? Which ELM327 units are you all using?

Any software updates to correct the occasional disconnect issue or for other things?

 

I was using the wrong ELM327 by the way. I bought the correct one but alas I am still having a connection issue. Returned the faulty unit, at least I hope it is faulty as I tried it as a stand alone unit with both Iphone and my Android phone. There was/is a definite connection issue with the phones, so I have to order another Vgate unit. My fault for waiting so long to try it, my XK was in hibernation so I just have to wait a bit longer to get her up and running. Anyway we cannot go very far with the covid issue at this time so it matters very little.

The only connection issues I have is when it is cold in the car (below ~5°C). This settles when the interior warms up.
No other updates available.....
on the other hand, I developed a device which runs on a lithium-ion battery due to the lack of a cig lighter in my car.

If there are more folks who have connection issues, I could update the software with a version which increases the time interval of data requests from the ELM.
Currently it is set to ~400 milliseconds.

 

Hi guy's, sorry to bring this up again but do not want to get the wrong unit again, it seems there are three variants to the Vgate Icar from what I see on Aliexpress. One is Bluetooth v4 for Ios and Android, 2) Wi-Fi V2.2 for Ios and Android, 3) Bluetooth V3 for Android only. I am confused and think the one I sent back may have just been the wrong one. Here is a link which lists the 3 different types, Vgate iCar Pro ELM327 OBD2 Scanner Bluetooth 4.0 WIFI ELM327 V2.2 For Android/IOS ELM 327 V2.2 OBD2 Car Diagnostic Auto Tool|Code Readers & Scan Tools| - AliExpress any advise would be much appreciated or a link to where the correct unit can be purchased.

I believe that Bob has now stopped 'manufacturing' the Auxiliary Display Units, but if you go to his website (linked in his sig) there are complete (and clear) instructions for how to make your own. I can definitely recommend going to the effort this entails. I wouldn't be without mine now and if it ever broke I would certainly make a new one for myself.

Everything you need is on Bob's website - even the correct file for the 3D printing for the housing.

 

Pm Bob, I bought one two month ago and he still had a few left so hurry!:-)

 

I still have parts on stock to create some more of them, but you'll have to wait a bit till I have time.

Finally my son put this together following the you tube video.
it recognised the car, the 4.2 engine, but it kept trying to talk to the OBDC i think it said and ended up not being able to connect. What have we done wrong?
