I'm polling to find out your opinions about the best placement for radar detectors.

Originally, I had placed mine ubove and left of the rear view mirror. I don't think it can capture rearward signals in that spot due to the rear window size. I have since relocated it below the mirror. See picture:



Any ideas as to the most efficient placement?

 

Mine is above dash, offset to the right.

Mine is just below the mirror and seems to work well for forwards and back detection. Its paid for itself a few times over in a just a few months.

 

Did you guys hardwire your RD? If so, where did you tap into the power supply?

 

I was vehemently against wires and dongles or anything else. I purchase an Escort Solo S3. It's wireless, thank God. It has already saved my @$$ more than 3 times in just over a week.

Just under the rear view is so far the best place to capture reward signals. I basically traced a line from the rearward sensor to the rear window and made sure it was clear.

It's not as discreet as my original placement which was above left of rear view. That is very discreet and hardly noticed. I sensed that it was angled to high for the forward sensor and the rearward sensor most certainly was pointed at the top fabric above the rear window.

 

Mine isn't hardwired. One thing I learned quicly was the the device needs to be quickly removed and hidden.
Even though it has saved me countless times, you can still get caught and pulled over!
It is well known that the mere sight of the device on your car will take away any chance you had of getting just a warning ticket.

I have the escort smartcord hardwired to my XKR. I tapped off the glove-box lamp to supply power. I have both the 9500I and the Solo S2. The 9500 is what I use for regular protection. The Solo units sleep to conserve power while on battery during which time they are not detecting signals. I got a couple nasty tickets using my solo so I stopped using it in favor of the 9500i.
