Why do we all make the same choices?
Why arent wheels the same color as the rest of the parts?
They were when we started (pic below).
Then we started making metal wheels and did not have paint good enough back in the day to take abuse.
Today paint is the toughest coating on wheels.
Yet we have established a precedent that wheels should be silver, so we paint them all silver. Or a new strange (and short-lived) trend of brake dust black wheels.

This is analogous to: At some desperate point we started drinking milk from very stinky unwashed animals, from their genital area no less.
Then times got worse and we started consuming this bodily secretion even when it had fermented.
Over time we started liking both fermented and moldy secretions- but only from the original stinky animals, never from our own kind or a cleanly kept dog- that would be repulsive.
Such is the power of precedent.

 

I do find it fascinating to explore past history for the automobile, especially pre-WWII, as the automotive world seemed such a vast departure from what it is today. I'm very fortunate to have a friend to have a car museum that I go wonder about in from time to time and see the pre-war Bentelys, Alfas, Fords, Duesenbergs, Studebakers, etc and it's striking to see how much the industry has changed and also stayed the same. Over all size being a shocking variation where even "small" cars were the size of a stretched SUV of today.

 

The best resale value/quickest sale for a Used Ferrari has been blue.

Red Ferraris make take months to sell, a blue one you can take months and get a premium, or sell in days at market price for what a red would be on the market for.

Just an observation of the short lived listings on blue Ferrari's compared to red.

This is as of the F430, I really haven't followed Ferrari's in recent years.

 

When I get an F-car I want it in gray as #1 choice, then about anything but red.

Regardless, I have decided I will not be keeping these wheels and anyone who wants them can have them for what I have in them. $900 + freight.

Had both the E-type and XJS nd enjoyed them both. As for Beemer's it's another car I won't own. Just don't care for the styling.

Yes Jaguar racing wheels on that station wagon makes as much sense as spoiler on a Ford LTD.

I would like to reiterate that we still have not had anyone chime in that is known to have original Vulcan wheels.

Both Mark and Prolix purchased theirs from resellers that may or may not have sold knockoffs.

I still have no expectation that a forged wheel is automatically lighter than a cast wheel.

There are several different aspects of strength when it comes to metal, and forging does not magically increase all of them.

The desire final profile and image are greater factors, as is desired strength.

Never make the assumption that just because a wheel is forged, it is lighter than one that isn't.

The 15" factory forged wheels for my 1984 944 are mildly heavier than the 15" standard cast wheels for 1984.

 

I hope they are knock-offs. Who in their right mind would want to see RARE top of the line Jaguar wheels utilized on an ugly volvo wagon.
