Question Questions about cooling fan and side vents

Hi all,

I was wondering how often after driving your XK for a little while you have the cooling fan turn on once you turn the engine off...in my case, except for very very short drives, it's pretty much always. What about you guys?

Besides I was expecting hot air to come out of the side vents...but nothing. After looking closely, it looks like they have no significant openings...are they actually fake and there just for looks?

Thanks a ton in advance for your answers!

HI George. I just had an issue in my 2007 4.2 N/A XK at 66K+ miles with the fans staying on after driving. It was diagnosed as a cracked/broken thermostat housing. $1100 later if is fixed and back to normal. I guess this part is a known weak point. Maybe have it checked out. I was happy that I caught it early.

As for the vents, I haveread that they are power vents and open automatically. I can't confirm this no matter how far and fast I drive with my head out the window(lol). I hope this is helpful.

Mine does that after driving for some time in high ambient temps. It does not do that in lower ambient temps.

we've had temps over 90F daily for a couple weeks now, and that only happened once. i had been driving in sport+dynamic using everything but 6th and holding revs above 2500 most of the time. i let the car idle a minute before i leave, let it warm up, and i was driving for maybe 20 minutes out of the total time i was out. seems to require checking all the checkboxes for the fans to stay on like that.

I don't remember the last time the fan in my 2011 XKR continued running so if it is happening so frequently, I would get it checked out, maybe a thermostat issue?

The side vents are just cosmetic - a styling feature.

Yes, it definitely is, thanks! I guess I'll have it checked out if it still does that when the temps are cooler.
