My X has done this a couple times. Check to make sure your water level is good. Other than that, no idea why it's doing that.

It might just be an electric cooling fan that continues to run to cool the car down after you stop. I know I can hear my car still circulating the coolant for a while after I turn it off. Same with many other cars.

This is 100% normal....If you "Don't" here the fan running after cut off then you will have problems.

Thanks guys for your prompt response. I've figured out what the issue was. I had a hole in my radiator drain hose and as a result i had no coolant in my tank... so i fixed the hose and filled it with antifreeze and the fan shut off immediately.

thanks again all ...

Same thing happened to me last month. Except it was the actual tanks lip that was broken, I had to get a new one and install it myself.

Good thing you caught it before any further damage.

wow.. you did the radiator yourself? i got bloody knuckles just fixing the hose and all i did was cut off the bad part. but getting to the clamp was unreasonably difficult.

Angled needle nose pliers work just perfect

No man I wish.

I had no Radiator fluid because the lip that connected the hose to the expansion tank was broken. So I changed the expansion tank myself. It is easier than fixing the hose.

Default Cooling fan continues to run after car is off

I just happened to see this subject on my way to the XK8 forum and offer this although it might not be applicable to the X types.

The XK8 cooling fans normally run for a short period of time, + - 30 seconds, after shutting down. If the time period is much longer than that the problem is usually with the water pump which is a known problem in our models. The vanes of the OEM pumps are plastic which over time become brittle and disintegrate, thus no real cooling. If the fans continue to run long this may be the problem.

I should have added: If the water pump is the problem because the plastic vanes disintegrated, make sure the replacement pump has an aluminum impeller.
