Default Rear brake light replace

Hello, about a week ago the right rear brake light went out on my 2007 xkr, naturally this weekend I went to take a look at the bulb that is in there and get it replaced. After spending about 20 minutes taking the trim panel off, unscrewing the first 9mm nut and struggling immensly in an attempt to get the second nut off(unsuccesfully), I gave in and put everything back the way it was. What im wondering now is how I should go about either fixing it myself or taking it to a shop locally, or the third option, the closest Jaguar dealership. Thanks for any suggestions.

Well, you won’t be able to fix it yourself until you get that second nut off. I don’t recall having any trouble with those nuts, but the pressed in peg at the tip was a pain. Especially since you need to be careful to not take the light out at an angle and break that tip.
Was the problem nut, the upper or lower nut?

Isn't there another nut on a higher plane than the others? You have to look up higher, towards the top edge of the inside of the boot side.

On the ‘07 its as per the Owner’s Manual. Perhaps give it a small dose of penetrating oil?

The upper nuts are a bit of a pain if you have never done it. You have to get your fingers up there and feel for that stud, then get a socket on it, then a ratchet. Once its loose just use your fingers.

I use a 7mm deep socket to get to them. Not sure where you are getting 9mm from.

Here is a link to similar question. It has some more pics. Be careful removing your light, the corner can chip easily. In the link I mentioned how I removed mine, which I think is the safest way. There are two 7mm nuts that have to be removed (newer model years have 3 - see pics in link). I used a nut driver to remove them and then gently tapped the nut driver on each stud for about 5 minutes (alternating studs) until the light popped out - it did not pop out far, but you need someone there to catch it so you do not damage paint or light.

As others have mentioned, not sure why you would have 9mm? Maybe your 9mm socket is just spinning over the 7mm nut on top?
