Default Rear end shudder while turning left at slow speed?

Hey guys. 2010 XKR here.

This problem is more prevent when the car has been sitting over night or not driven a couple hrs.

When first starting out, when I make a stop at a stop sign or intersection, when I start moving while making a left turn, I feel sort of a shudder from the rear end it seems like? Maybe even a hesitation if you may.

The car doesn't do it at all when accelerating from a stop and making a right hand turn.

Any idea of what this could be?

Thanks in advance!

I had/have this "problem" also, and evidently so have many, many other owners. I've taken it that it's considered "normal" in some sense.

I'll have to pay attention and see if I have the same issue. Never noticed it but will listen for it next time out.

I had this in my vette and when I replaced the gear oil it was gone. I had to use a modifier in the corvette rear end. don't know much about XKR rear end though.

I have something like that, but it seems to be more from the steering to me than the rear end anywhere. Haven't paid attention to whether it is only when turning one way or the other but it is just once in a while and if it happens at all, it is only when I am just slowly going out from the garage or starting to move after the car was sitting a while. After that I never feel it.

Had a similar concern with an X350 and it was cured with a flush of the power steering and new fluid.

This concern has been brought up on the X150 but don't recall what or if the solution was. Might do a search for it.

Not entirely sure how a power steering flush (at the front) could cure a shudder from the rear BUT I had a similar symptom on my 2010 XKR Dynamic only turning left and the lower speed but sharper the turn the more noticeable it was at certain slow speeds. The cure was to replace the differential. My 2010 model has the slightly newer active e-differential and the electronic clutch was misbehaving under certain circumstances. While the initial recommendation was differential clutch refurbishment ultimately the whole thing was replaced. Since then only glorious silence from the rear and smoothness on take-off (apart from the glorious V8 soundtrack and the Saturn-V effect).

Hi! Also a 2010 XKR owner. Interestingly, I previously owned a 2011 XK, so I have comparitive experience. Long story short: I notice that vibration/shudder EVERY TIME I make a hard left from a stop (taking a left across traffic, etc). I have also noticed it on right turns lately. I NEVER had that issue on my last car. SO.... either it's a 2010 issue that got fixed, or it's an XKR issue. My opinion is that it's something in that electronic differential.

I have also noticed this on my 2012 xkr but did not in my 2008 xk. Glad to see its "normal".

I would hardly call this normal. Clearly something is wrong and it should be fixed.

"Normal" doesn't necessarily mean "Correct".
Saying "OH" when one should say "Zero" is "normal", but oh-so-very WRONG.

I would agree - I seem to recall that the XKR has the e-diff as standard to handle the torque and this is where the problem lies. It is perhaps not noticeable on the XK. I also believe it was supposed to have been fixed on the 10MY on vehicles but perhaps not quite?

I absolutely agree that it's not normal-- this confirms that it's not just something with my car alone. I was wondering if anyone out there has had the issue addressed by a jag specialist?

One more post, to be more specific:
- this is definitely a "vibration - shudder" feeling.
- there is no noise associated with it.
- for me, it definitely feels like it's from the rear end.
- I'll test again, but I don't think the vibration is transmitted to the steering wheel.
- It only occurs while turning, and most pronounced from a stop. (Which are typically the sharpest turns one makes).

Hope that helps.

2012 XKR - Have the same issue. Typically after car has been parked overnight, first couple of turns out of garage. Feels like something slipping before power applied to left rear wheel.

That is what I have, when backing out of the garage when you make the first turn with the steering wheel there is a judder that transmits, only on the first turn of the wheel after putting in forward drive, quickly goes away. It doesn't do it when you turn the wheel as I reverse out of the garage, just in the forward turn of the wheel back to straight.

The next time I am in for a service I will bring it up to my adviser. The thing is it doesn't occur every time, just every once and a while. I have been trying to figure out how to recreate at will so that it is easier to show.

I have both. The rear end shudder is much different than the shuddering of the steering wheel on very slow turns. Both are commonly reported across several Jaguar models, not unique to XK/XKR.

Funny, my first XK that was totaled didn't have this at all, so with this one I thought it was indicating some issue in the power steering system.
