Default Removal of bonnet badge/emblem

Hi everyone

My XKR has a leaping jaguar emblem on the bonnet (picture attached) "kindly" put there by the previous owner. You'll probably agree that it looks horrible. Problem is it's been drilled through the bonnet.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this? I want a flush factory style bonnet again!

You have two options:
1. Have a body shop knowledgeable in the repair of aluminium remove the leaper, fill in the holes and repaint the bonnet.

2. Replace the bonnet and have it painted to match the rest of the vehicle.

Thought so... could potentially leave the tear drop shape part of plastic in the meantime as that doesn't look AS bad as the badge.

Given the 'leaper' protruding as it does, I'm surprised the vehicle got through MoT.

It was MOT'd the day before it was sold to me by the garage I bought from - so I'm sure some 'funny business' went on there. Another reason why I want it gone!!

As a quick fix I would remove it (2 nuts from the back) and plug the holes with black rivits until you get a body shop to fill and paint the area.

The leaper may have gotten passed for being a "break away", its glued to the holder but not with a strong enough bond to hold it in place through an impact.

I think taking the leaper off and leaving the tear drop would be the best short term.

While I love the Jaguar leaper, this isn't the hood design to fit it.

Ditto, just take it off and deal with the hole later. A little round of black electrical tape would suffice to cover the holes and not be observable from any distance.

I would leave it alone until I had a professional body shop look at it first.
Then I would make a decision to have them do it, or try to do it myself, or just leave it be. In my situation it would depend on the cost of professional removal.

What is it with previous owners adding ticky-tack crap like this to the car? The 2011 175 I was looking at had a "custom" dash plaque, a pair of leapers, and the word "PLATINUM" above the bumper on the trunk. Granted, someone had repainted it silver (it was supposedly a factory job), but that's still no reason to gaudy it up.

As a temporary fix, what about a smaller version of the grill emblem.

There's no limit to bad taste. What amazes me is how often such vandalism is then described as an 'upgrade".

The silver lining to that cloud-it was owned by a Jaguar fanatic.
You should replace it with the mini flag pole and flag that came from factory.

Yes had this problem on a previous s type with aluminium bonnet. The local dent/paint repair guys would not touch it mainly because of the material but also because the whole bonnet would need to be sprayed. Instead I filled the hole and fitted a small Jag badge. It looked like a standard fitment and saved a lot of money. Just depends on what you want to do.

I think the cheapest solution for me right now is to replace it with a less insulting, smaller emblem.

New mission: what emblem should I put there instead!?!? My only thoughts against the smaller circular jaguar emblem is that it's also on the front grill - might look a bit OTT. What about a small "V8" emblem or something different?
