secondary air injection pump r & r experience
Recently in the Pacific Northwest a 74 year old man changed out his exhaust emissions secondary air injection pump in his 2008 Jaguar XK. This man, is known to his friends and neighbors as being affable in nature with a steady compass. This man, during the course of the pump change, made several comments about the design engineers that located and mounted the pump in its current location. The man went on to make comments about the documentation engineers, who wrote the repair manual, had obviously never made an effort to change the aforementioned pump on a real car. For if they had, they certainly would have commented about the 10mm backing nuts that required a 10mm socket with a 3 or 4 inch extension to access the backing nuts. Nor did they mention that it is a marvelous idea to remove the right front tire and the right fender front half covering material to access the pump and facilitate the removal and installation of the pump. The quiet, unassuming 74 year old man also had a few choice words for both the design and documentation managers that allowed these nightmares to be created in the first place. Several of these comments about the engineers and managers included various vegetables, fruits and farm animals. None of which is suitable for public display.
