Separate your keys
I'm fairly new to this forum. I recently bought an '07 XK, which my wife and I are enjoying very much.
The '07 refused to start for her today stranding her in a parking lot. The "key" worked to unlock the door and start accessory power, but would not start the motor. I knew the battery was good. I have a scan gauge connected to the OBD II port that monitors battery voltage.
I drove to her rescue carrying a 10mm wrench and AAA card. Figured I could disconnect the battery and "reboot" the ECU if necessary. AAA could tow it home if that didn't work.
On arrival I confirmed her problem. Then it struck me. Someone mentioned on this forum a problem with interference from foreign electronic car keys. Our other car is a BMW with a so-called "smart key." I have never like the short range of the BMW key, it is less than 10 feet. I asked my wife if she had a BMW key in her purse. Then she mentioned that a BMW key was in her jacket pocket in the back seat. We retrieved the key, separated it from the Jag - all was well.
Strange because then why did the car start initially when she left home? Apparently, the position of the jacket was such that the weak BMW signal did not interfere. Later, she said she moved the jacket slightly, and that's when the problem began. It seems the slight move unshielded the BMW key.

Thanks for that, did not know that could happen. I find that if my wife's XK does not start putting the key in the receiver in the center console solves the issue. This has only happened once or twice.
the bigger issue is next to backlite sources like smart phones, and the cigar lighter adapters that have the blue light thats the size of a dime. Both of those definitly interfere with smart keys
Here's a screen shot of an iPhone from the Apple Store with the Viper SmartStart app:

This "free" app purports to enable Apple, Android and Blackberry smartphones to remotely start your car and perform other functions (lock/unlock, car finder, alarm status and notification). Although the app is advertised as being free, it works only if you buy the matching hardware from Viper Electonics and their service plan. See this link: Viper - SmartStart
And the link to the Apple Store: App Store - Viper SmartStart
And the link to the Google/Android Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...artstart&hl=en
Great idea! But... read the most recent user reviews on the Google/Android Play Store.
