Shifting bump
When slowing down to a stop, the final gear change to 1st gear causes a bit of a jerk prior to stopping. This happens quite often yet sometimes not at all. I think I heard abut this a long time ago but can't find the post anymore. Anyone know what's going on?
I think it is pretty common with that gearbox. My X350 used to do it and I was disappointed when I bought my '07 XKR to find out that it had the same gearbox and same issue. When the engine was cold the jerk could be quite violent.
Clearing the TCM adaptations used to get rid of it for a bit but it would come back eventually. Driving style probably makes a difference as 95% of my driving was around town but the gearbox seemed to perform better after a longer drive.
My 5 litre XKR is OK as that has the later gearbox but my Aston Martin Virage has the same gearbox as the 4.2 and does it occasionally.

Google ZF Lurch (Type 1).
Most of the time but not always. If I slow down very slowly it will not happen which seems to make your statement poosible!

Interesting you mentioned after long drives it seems to go away (for a while). Most of driving is around town but come to think of it, after a longer drive it does not happen. I'll look into resetting the TCM - thanks!
HOWEVER, how many miles on your transmission? These 'sealed for life' transmissions should have the fluid and filter serviced every 60,000 miles. Failure to do so could greatly reduce the life expectancy of the trans.
