I have a recent acquisition which is a 2001 XKR Silverstone. Suddenly this morning I could not get it out of park and was forced to use the manual override process from the manual. The brake switch which I understand Can fail and cause this to happen is functioning properly. Does anyone have any ideas of alternative reasons that might have caused this to take place.

You need to post on the x100 forum and you'll get plenty of answers. You might try locking the car, then unlocking and restarting. Otherwise, I would agree the brake switch is likely culprit.
