Since the right around the corner 2013 will be the last for the current platform what would you like to tell Jaguar you'd like to see for the all new model?

The object here isn't to pick apart each others suggestions but rather list your preferences and why. Who knows, even though the plans are very far along, maybe Jaguar will listen to some of our suggestions...

I'll start:

Vastly improved consistency in quality

Vastly improved fuel economy*

7 or 8 speed trans*

Folding hardtop vs cloth, at least as an option.

An coolant temp gauge

An oil pressure gauge

Less weight*

A high power TT V6 option*

Lower dust brakes

Not too crazy about the car becoming even larger to be a true 2+2, but I guess the F type will slot in just right, or maybe the F is too small?

Let Ian Callum's Aston like trend progress/evolve, so far so good for the changes he's done for 12.

Production on MY 2013 starts at the end of this month. They aren't changing anything from MY 2012. To entice people to buy it anyway, 20" wheels are standard. If you don't like the standard wheels, then they give you a choice of other 20s for $1,000. Also, the Special Order charge has been eliminated.

The only thing "new" they are offering is a Portfolio Pack, which is simply a couple of obscure color combinations, plus a lot of chrome. Also, Dynamic Pack will be available on the XKR convertible.

IMO, the biggest weakness of this car is the electronics. It's like state-of-the-art circa 2000. It would be wonderful if they came out with a software upgrade to bring the car electronics into the 21st century, but I doubt they will ever do that. I think they are saving everything for MY 2014.

 

Don't do anything to diminish the XKR as the brands halo performance car. Let the new F-Type and other models follow the trends and appeal to various segments, but protect the prestige, soul and heritage of the XK.

The only feasible powerplant going forward would be a high performance hybrid powerplant of 500 hp or more I would think. That's the direction other top offerings are going, and the XK will have to as well. They seem to get that with the F-Type's future engine plans, and I suspect they're delaying that so they can introduce it on the XK first.

I have complete confidence that Ian Callum shares these exact aspirations, and has the testicular fortitude to protect that vision for the XK at all costs.

Given the state of the art in electronics and the lack of engine monitoring gauges in the last several years of XK, going forward they should take a cue from modern aircraft. The car has a central electronic display. Simply make a page for engine monitoring gauges. The driver can make it his home page if he likes. If the engine monitoring page isn't displayed, when a certain parameter is exceeded or an idiot light comes on, the display changes automatically to the engine monitoring page and the appropriate electronic gauge facsimile will be displayed red. That can't cost much.

I'm all for better electronics. Look at the Nissan GTR for what a high performance car should have. 7 different screens worth of displays that indicates everything from performance parameters to transmission oil temperatures...

Also, an 8 speed transmission is a must. That could close up the ratios for even better and sharper acceleration while maintaining the economy cruising modes.

The use of more composites for weight savings. Ideally the car should loose several hundred lbs and for the price tag near 100K it could be done. Aluminum is nice but, it is still 4000 lbs!

Electronically variable ride height (why not, we can dream, can't we?).

I like to have battery ampermeter as well . New XKs should have some gauges you mentioned considering new F30 bmw 3 Series can have some engine gadgets like these as well .So, it's a performance car by Jaguar and these would be so cool

HUDs , heads up displays are dandy items too and I find them cool

A 7 speed manual will really steal some of Porsche's thunder and capture customers that would other wise would've wrote Jaguar off since they don't offer a manual.

Why should Porsche & Corvette get spoon fed all the manual transmission customers? As long as it's a good shifting (or better than the competition), the sales will be worth it.

 

Why would you want 7 speeds? That is way too many gears! 6 max!

 

Wouldn't be surprised if the new F type came with a manual. With the new xk platform growing in size to a full 2+2 it's doubtful they'd do a manual. Curious does the Panamera have one?

I agree with F type would be more appropriate for a manual, but if either had a manual would be a step in the right direction.

 

No manual tranny in panamera-only PDk. Seems like a trend-no manual is offered by Ferrari, lambo, or mclaren.

 

I think it was an option at one point but global sales were less than 5%
