Default Temperature Sensor?

I found this part, which looks to me like a temperature sensor, by accident in the car today in the ashtray area. Does anyone know what this is, what it does and where it belongs? ;-)

Thx in advance!

Do you also have pics of the two ends of the part?

That also looks just a bit like a FAKRA plug.
But it isn't. Evidently not even close.

Next try, sorry for the bad pictures:

On the backside you can find the letters "BY" and probably an "E" below. The part is about 2,5cm long.

Additional info: the small squared black part at the end under the cable with the little hole in the middle can be compressed - there is a little spring inside.

Weird...

So, everything from what you can tell is still working in the dash?

It's hard to see from the pic, but is the gold end solid, or is there a hole in the center of the top of it (i.e. like the female end of an RCA audio connector)?

Thx, the end is more in a silver color - and no hole. As far as I have checked during now about 1500km since the purchase everything is working related to the a/c - heater system. Next I will check the cigarette lighter.

That looks like a broken off phono socket to me.

And I am not even sure that the part is really from my car. It can also be a perfidious joke of the seller who placed such a part in the car...;-)

I second-thought that it looks like the center positive pin from one of those cigarette/cigar lighter 12V adapters.

Good guess, especially when the thing has a spring in it.
