That source turns off after 15 minutes. Won't help you much.

In any case or just when the car is off?
So better stick with the glovebox one if I understand well?

I previously answered this question in my Post #71, above.

The cigar lighter and the 12V socket in the glovebox won't work with a battery maintainer.

Both of those sockets are on switched circuits, which means that they are on when the ignition is on and off when the ignition is off.

All X150 models have Convenience Mode, which wakes up the car and turns on some of the electrical circuits when you open the door, either with the Smartkey or by pulling the door handle. If the engine isn't running, Convenience Mode will automatically shut off all the electric circuits after around 15 minutes to preserve the battery.

When those circuits are off, there's no electricity to power anything.

From the Owner's Handbook:

Is it ok to start the car with the ctek hooked up or does it need to be disconnected first?

No problem running the car with the maintainer connected. Remember to disconnect it before driving away😙

Default CTEK 5.0 charger

Hi. New to forum and as a new Jaguar XF S owner. Had problems with the battery dying especially in cold weather. AA recommended the CTEK charger and have attached the car in the AGM mode so fingers crossed all good. However, I don't have a garage so doing this on the drive with boot closed but not shut. The interior boot light is still on. Is this a problem??
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

You're in the X150 Forum, for 2006 -2014 XK/XKR models. Nevertheless, I'll answer your questions.

I presume your car has an AGM battery.

You should shut the boot and leave the CTEK outside. If you don't shut the boot, your car won't lock and will be vulnerable to theft. Also, the electronics won't completely shut down and your CTEK won't be able to be fully charge your battery. Leaving the CTEK inside your car is a fire risk. Don't do it.

You can set your CTEK on top of the rear tire, where it is out of the weather and won't get wet. No harm will come to the power cord from the CTEK that goes into the boot and connects to the battery pigtail. If your XF uses a Battery Monitoring System Module that is attached to the negative battery terminal, you must attach the negative CTEK lead to a chassis ground and not the negative battery terminal.

You may want to post your inquiry in the proper Forum for your XF.

Thanks Stuart. Apologies for posting in the wrong area but appreciate you answering my query. I have placed it outside of the vehicle and also attached the negative cable to a vehicle bolt of the chassis next to the battery.

You should update your Public Profile to include the year and model of your Jaguar(s). It'd be helpful if you would create a signature with that information so Forum members can reply to your inquiries without having to ask you.

If you've been helped by a post, you can express your thanks by pressing the button at the bottom right corner of the page.

That's so classy, Stuart, thank you so much.
And when it comes to class, I know one thing or two.

I get it, George. You're in good company, with the rest of the cast. All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players ...

You can't spell class without ***!

His last name and mine are deriveratives of the same ancestry in Morocco.

The difference is that you're real and he's not. That particular George Abitol screen name is from a fictional character in a movie, although that name is shared with some real people, past and present. Just like Clark Kent.

No kidding! How funny. Why pick such an obscure sepharic last name? Renault F1's team principal Cyril Abiteboul and Moroccan singer Marcel Botbol are two "famous" beyond me lol. The rest are just Israeli mafia.

the only reason I’m posting is that on such a simple subject I wanted to be part of the club that demands now, 98 posts.
Can we make it to 100?

Happy Holidays Everybody!

The Forum is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.

Thanks, Forrest! You're a great American philosopher!

Because he's the classiest man in the world, that's why. Officially.
Quite fitting for a classy ride like the X150...
