Default Thinking about an 07 XK coupe...suggestions

I'm selling my 2001 XK8 coupe and thinking about either an 06 Porsche 911 or an 07 XK coupe.
I'm starting to have second thoughts about the Porsche since I've seen disturbing news on the internet about their engines blowing up with some frequency. That takes me to the 07 XK. I'd welcome any advice/info about the ride, reliability and overall satisfaction regarding that model. Thanks

I have an '07 XKR convert. Bought the car used with 59,000 miles. I've put on about 10,000 miles in the last 14 months since purchasing it. No problems and the performance is more than I expected (I also have an'08 Corvette so I expect good performance!)

I purchased an 07 XKR Coupe a little over a month ago, with 11,574 miles on it from a dealership in Houston, TX

They replaced the driver's door module (computer) and I bought a new battery. Other than that the car has been perfect.

I love Jags, and the 07 ( and on) are simply beautiful cars. I have an 02 XKR 100 and the difference is night and day between the cars. The 02 is beautiful as well, but the 07 is an improvement in many ways, including power. I've only driven the car is "S" mode a couple of time, but in normal drive mode I spin the tires by accident sometimes due to the power.

Can't be happier with mine. I also purchased a 100K warranty with the car, as they are expensive to repair if it is major.

I owned an 05' 911 convert & I never had issues with the car other then the typical $125 oil changes & outrages brake replacement prices; which do tend to wear quite often. (cant speak for the 06' model but doubt they changed all that much from 05) Did own a Cayenne a couple yrs back & that was the most problematic vehicle Ive ever owned, not to mention the least time ive ever owned a SUV. (HAD IT FOR LIKE ALMOST 5MONTHS) POS

NOw i owned my 07' Xk coupe for the past couple of months & it was an incredible purchase. its been a really great car. & also a very admired car by on lookers. cant complain. think this 1 may be a keeper. i guess only time will tell.

good luck with your search & keep us posted on what you decide.

When I bought my 07' Convert with 31k on it, I too was looking at a Porsche. I was looking at how much upkeep would be on the Porsche along with anything that you have to do is basically from the bottom or drop the whole thing. I love this Jaguar and have had it now since Feb. There is not a time when I drive it that someone doesn't ask me about the car or tells me how much they like it.

I bought my previously owned '07 XK convertible four years ago with 10,000 miles on. The car has been virtually trouble free so far with 42,000 miles on the clock. I love my Jag!

Bought my '07 XK coupe new and the only problem I've had is with the keyless start. But there is a failsafe slot that... well it never fails. I'd suggest forgoing a model with the adaptive cruise control since that hasn't worked very well for me.

My 07 coupe has been problem free, except for some episodes just after purchasing. I purchased it with 20K miles, and a month or two after my purchase, I began having a number of weird electrical problems: car wouldn't start, accessory ignition wouldn't turn on, radio would act up, etc. Dealer did a diagnostic and replaced my battery for free. (I have the CPO warranty, but I think the dealer was just being nice.)

Since then, I have had no problems. The dealer said that, with all the electronics running before you even turn on the car, the car is hard on batteries. Even with a 5-year battery, they suggested replacing on a 3-year cycle. I hope to be in a XKR175 before that 3 years is up!

The car is a real head turner, and Jaguar did a really great job with the MY07+.

I went and looked at one yesterday afternoon at a BMW dealership. I didn't have time to drive it but will go back this afternoon to do that. I always thought the interior of my 01 XK was beautiful but the 07 beats it. Wow! There are several for sale in the area, ranging from 5700 to 30,000 miles so I've got a decent selection to choose from. My mechanic suggested that I use Edmunds as a guide to determine what to offer. He said it's better than Kelly which is too high. What do you all think? Oh and hey 07XKJAGUAR,just curious, how much was the extra warranty? Was it through the dealer?

I agree with the others,

I bought my 08 XK three months ago with 31,000 miles. I have had the same battery issues as the others, but once the battery was replaced (actually twice because Advance Auto sold me a defective battery the first time) the car has been problem free.

AND......What a beautiful motorcar!!! Power, looks, ride, that "pizaaz" factor. What else can I say? Just an amazing machine.

One final thing that is never far from my thoughts is if my XK is this damned fast, with 300 screaming horses under the bonnet and torque that seems to go on forever, how absolutely SCARY must the supercharged "R" version be???????

That thought keeps me up at night...

Again I'm happy to say, my '07 XK (42K miles) convertible has not really given me any problems other than a dodgy remote key fob that wants to be very close to the car in order to open the doors or trunk lid and, windows that when auto'd up with the top down, immediately come back down. I have to outsmart the windows by manually putting them down all the way and then bring them up manually.
I have not replaced my factory battery yet after 5 years so, you guy's are scaring me now. I maybe pushing my luck with my original battery.

Thanks everybody!
I'm going to make an offer on one tomorrow. Black coupe with 19 inch rims. Any idea what a reasonable offer would be? Under 10k miles. I've been told Edmunds is the closest to real value and both Kelly and NADA favor dealers. Advice welcomed

As coupes are somewhat less desirable than convertibles,
I'd do my homework and "lowball" the dealer $5,000 less that what he wants (or it's worth) and pretty much stick to it.

Further to my above comment, with reference to my own '07 convertible, As I'v already said above, I bought it when it was one year old with 10K miles. The dealer was asking $78,000. It windowed new at $92,350 because of the $5,000 20" Centra wheels. I offered $55,000 and ended up buying at $60,000!

BINGO!!! Just bought the car! Black with caramel interior and the lux package. Good news, bad news. Bad news: the first title listed by carfax as a corporate vehicle (for the first 1878 miles on the island in Palm Beach). Second owner is personal and drove it like crazy to 5700 miles. So I got an 07 Xk that still smells new, with 5700 miles for $38500! What do you think? Oh, and the warranty is still good till August.

Congratulations - that is one hell of a deal.

Whomever sold it to you at that price with those miles with the color, interior and lux pkg isn't too bright - but that's good for you.
