Another important difference is on the 2014 when I rev it in neutral the rev limiter will cut in at 4000 rpm and on the 2011 I can rev it in neutral all the way up to the red line. Whether the exhausts are the same in both years the noise levels and rev limiter settings are definitely not.

I would suggest the difference was between standard exhaust vs. performance active exhaust systems. There would be a difference there but a 2011 standard exhaust vs a 2014 standard exhaust would be the same. Also the PAE in 2011 vs the PAE in 2014 would be the same. About the 4000 RPM cutoff that seems strange to me. I don't have that in my 2012 XKR with PAE.

my 2012 XK has a cut off 4k rpm in neutral or park. I believe that that is standard, at least on 12s. If you are going to get the tune perhaps the cutoff can be eliminated in the tune.

I guess I'm a little confused between standard exhaust and performance active exhaust. My 2014 xkr has electronic valves in the exhaust which open and close depending on rpm but it is still pretty quiet sounding. What is the difference in the PAE and how would I know if I had it or another car had it? Is there an additional switch somewhere? The 4000 rpm cutoff would be a sign that I dont have it if yours revs all the way up.

The difference is in the center pipe system. If you look under your car you will either see 2 additional small mufflers . This is the standard exhaust . The PAE does not have these but instead you will see a X pipe located near the transmission. This system has less restrictions and will be louder then the standard system. I believe the rear muffler with the valves is the same for both exhaust systems. I also believe the 5.0L engine has a different rear muffler then the 4.2L. The PAE was an option on the XKR and standard on the XKR-S.
