Great job. A nine year old XK looks better than new.

[QUOTE=LoudHogRider;1656084]I used a lot of your previous suggestions in acquiring equipment and polish, so thanks again for sharing your knowledge with the board. I spent 7 hours with an orbital polisher and buffing towels yesterday to get this look. I discovered some areas where I need to do some minor paint correction before applying the ceramic coatings, but those will be the next steps in a month or so. Until then, soooo shiney.

I'm planning to get out my clay bars and DA polisher when time permits to remove the all the imperfections, swirls etc on my XKR. Ultimate black looks superb when it's clean (and rubbish when it isn't)

What did you use on your roof to get it looking so good?

303 Fabric Guard (

), per a suggestion from the board. I basically poured it into a bowl and brushed it on vs. taping everything off and spraying it. It felt a lot more controlled and I'm very happy with the results.

I did exactly the same thing LRH did and I am very pleased with the results. Just to be extra careful I put an old kingsize bed sheet in between the top and the side windows and windshield. On and earlier vert I sprayed and had a mess on my hands.

Thanks for the tip, Ralph. I have used Renovo Colour Reviver and Ultra Proofer before, and last year also tried Carpro Cquartz Hydrophobic Fabric Coat and I was disappointed that the wear on the fabric where the roof folds became more obvious. I was hoping for the opposite.

Does this happen with 303?

Been using the 303 for a couple of years and see no difference in the appearance of the fold marks (better or worse).

I don't think you can avoid the creases if you put the top down a lot. I have noticed many verts here in Southern Cal with creases and wear marks. Also, The other vert I had with a black top showed lots of creases. The 12 with a tan top had few if any noticeable creases. Creases are now showing up on my 13 which has only been in use for 14 months.

I like to put the top down whenever I can to get full benefit of having a vert - no point otherwise. I'm not too bothered about it as most marques with a fabric roof have the same issue, and it does show up more with the black top. My SL500 had the same problem. Just another reason to drop the top as much as possible as the car itself, in Ultimate Black with Ivory interior, looks superb especially in the bright Spring sunshine (disappeared of course with the Easter holiday coming up!)

I have a lot of miles on my car and thought it was the milage that caused the wear marks but apparently not.Like you say a good way to hide them is to go topless!

I have my top down maybe 180-200 days a year, sometimes for days at a time. The creases come with the vert(eventually).
