I replaced all 4 of my original factory tires a few months ago with Michelin 4Ss and 4 new VDO/Continental sensors. These sensors are 315mhz and are self learning. THEY REQUIRE NO PROGRAMMING The mileage at the time was 15,116. After the installation, the TPMS warning light went out within a few miles (about 10-15 minutes). All was well until today. Now after two months and 180 miles, the Tire pressure monitoring system Icon was flashing as well as in the message center there was a warning: TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM FAULT. After a few minutes the Icon stops flashing but remains lit as well as the TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM FAULT MESSAGE. . I checked all the tires and they are reading the proper specs after warming up. I originally had 33lbs/fronts and 36lbs/rears. I read all the posts from the previous thread with regards to the flashing rotating tire warnings going from tire to tire. I don't have that. Mine is somewhat different as it's mentioning TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM FAULT. My car is constantly on a CTEK and the battery is absolutely fully charged. I'm hoping that not every Jaguar XK needs a TPMS module. Any suggestions for my warning message? Should I be trying to over fill the tires to 40 lbs? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

 

I changed every component on my car to do with TPMS, reflashed all the modules a couple times, over-inflated a couple times, checked all the wiring and I STILL have the SYSTEM FAIL.

 

I had to replace the TPMS module a couple of months ago. That could be your problem seeing as you have new sensors.

 

UPDATE: After performing the decreasing tire pressures to 25lbs and then increasing to 45lbs and taking a drive for approximately 10-15 minutes the Tire Pressure System Fault message is gone as well as the TPMS Icon. For those out there that had this procedure work for them.... did the error message come back? If so... how long did it take? After bringing the pressures back to normal I took a short drive and so far so good. I guess only time will tell. I hope the damn message stays off! Thanks all. I'll keep everyone posted.

 

I think I originally posted the over-inflation technique and then gradually decreasing to normal tire pressure as a solution. I have not had a recurrence of the fault message or any of the jumping around faults as I had before. And I'm sure it's been over a 100,000 miles ago since I did this. So, I think you may be safe. Now watch, tomorrow I'll have a warning. Should've just kept my mouth shut.

 

Tberg....No worries. Today, after 24 hours with the proper tire pressure settings, I went for a 30 minute highway drive with no messages lighting up. I'm hoping I have the same luck as you Tberg so don't throw me any wrenches from left field!!! lol I'll keep the forum posted. Hopefully I won't need that ridiculous Tire Pressure Monitoring System Control Module Reset. To be continued.....

I'm a new Forum member and have subscribed to this thread, as I'm now experiencing the same "fault" message.
* 2009 XK
* Newer (6 months) Michelin tires w/ new TPS sending units installed by Discount Tire.
* Our car is constantly on a CTEK and the battery is fully charged.
Everything was working fine, with no faults, until today.
I will try decreasing the tire pressure to 25lbs, then increasing to the correct pressure then take a drive to see if that works...

I would be following the pinpoint tests. Starting with a confirmation of the battery
That is, take it off the maintainer and check the voltage level after it sitting overnight. This way you will be able to more accurately rule it out.

WHAT? Decreasing pressure to 25 lbs??? Your tires are waaay underinflated!

See the sticker on the Driver's door jamb for the factory-recommended tire pressures when cold.

 

????????? 33 front, 36 rear. Going Down to 25 would definitely be a decrease.

I had Tyre pressure System Fault warning shortly after buying my 2014 XK six years ago. The over inflation / run / deflation technique worked and the fault has not returned except as a genuine warning on a front tyre that was losing pressure. However, I expect the (original) TPMS sensors are really well beyond expected lifetime and will shortly need replacing.

For background, the vehicle has a good battery (now three years old) and always has a CTEK connected when parked in my garage.

I had all four of the TPMS sensors replaced. The TPMS warning (which is a particularly irritating warning because it covers the center of the instruments, including the clock) keeps intermittently returning.
Because swearing at the problem didn't help, I tried the "deflate to 25 psi, Inflate to 40 psi" procedure.
It seems to have worked!!
I plan to now slowly return to normal tire pressures over the next weeks.
I love my Jag again!

 

You do realize that you can clear that big warning by pressing the little red triangle at the bottom-rightish of the display, right?

 

UPDATE: I performed the “decreasing tire pressure method” down to 25lbs in each tire with the ignition on but engine not running. Then, without moving or driving the car, I took the air pressure up to the posted pressure levels on each tire while keeping the ignition on the entire time. After taking a drive for approximately 10-15 minutes the Tire Pressure System Fault message is gone as well as the TPMS Icon. This was a few weeks ago, and everything is still good, with no warning lights. Fingers crossed!!!

yup, a late reply. But, please realize people are not driving with the underinflated tires. You reduce the pressure to trigger the sensor, then pump it up before driving on it.

 

Has anyone ever replaced the battery inside a TPMS module? I am due to replace all 4 tyres soon and will be refurbishing the wheels at the same time. I could do without the additional £400-odd expense of 4 new monitors if they are physically functioning fine and just might go flat soon. Never seen them before so don't know how stupid a question this is.

 

I don't believe they are replaceable. You should be able to purchase for much less at suppliers online.
