Default Vacuum Leaks and Injectors 4.2 NA

07 x150 base: I finally resolved the rest of the vacuum leaks, some of which were documented in another thread. This is meant to be a summary of repairs for those searching for this continuing problem on early year X150s.

Since the explanation is long, it's attached as a PDF with embedded pics. It covers all the vacuum leaks tested and repaired, as well as rebuilding the injector gaskets as one of the several vacuum leak fixes.

Injector replacement is in the Service Manual sec. 19.60.13 for NA. SC is there too. Manual is in the stickies.

Hope this helps someone get the job done quicker.

Best,

Panthera

Folks, The LTFT indicator of a vacuum leak (at idle) is illustrated below.

Before the VL fixes. Live data of a 30 min drive.

After the VL fix. Live data of a 50 min drive. LTFT hovers around 0%, as it should. The point is you can live test your search for the leak, sealing off certain portions of the vacuum envelope and seeing if/when the LTFT drops closer to 0%.

My major leak was in Bank 2, with total LTFT greater than 20% (enough to set code). Minor leaks were scattered around, resulting in a higher than normal Bank 1.

The app cost $5. The cheap OBD bluetooth was $15. I never would have found several of the leaks without a smoke machine. Because there were a series of leaks, water spraying or listening with a stethoscope was useless.

Also, because it takes 20% to code, I never would have known I got all the leaks without the app to measure the solution actually reached 0 by fixing them all. So, you need live data to do the job right.
